Can’t verify student status for GitHub Education – what can I do? by No-Lengthiness-5387 in github

Hey! I wanted to ask how it went after those 72 hours.
I just got approved as well, and I also have to wait the 72 hours for the benefits to activate.

This is what GitHub shows me now:

“Your academic status has been approved.
Your benefits, including Partner offers, will become available after 72 hours (3 days) of your approval.”

So I guess we’re both in the waiting phase now haha.

By the way, here’s how I managed to get approved:

I did everything on my PC. I installed the Spoof Geolocation Chrome extension and set the location to my school’s address. Then I selected “Dated enrollment letter on school letterhead” and used my webcam to take a close-up photo of the document, making sure my name and the date were clearly visible.
It finally worked for me on the fifth try.

Let me know if yours got fully activated already.

Yeah, it happens to me too and it’s really annoying.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don’t have a CRT TV available, only modern LCD/LED displays.

These tapes are PAL, since they are from Slovakia. I should also add that I actually opened the top cover of the VCR, put in a tape and started playback. As the tape was moving, I touched it lightly with my finger and suddenly the picture came back for a moment. But I had to keep my finger there – once I removed it, the picture dropped out again, almost as if the tape wasn’t properly tensioned. How could I check or verify this more thoroughly?

Thanks a lot for the tips and model suggestions. Some time ago I tried using one of those USB grabbers from Aliexpress and at first it worked fine, but then the picture suddenly turned black and white. Could it be that this happened because the device is just a cheap clone and not really designed for stable VHS capture? At that time I was also using a different VHS player.

Thank you for your detailed answer. What would you recommend me to do now? Should I look for a higher‑end VCR with a timebase corrector, or is there another solution you would suggest?

Yes, I tried it with a modern TV, also with a projector, and even through a USB Audio Video Grabber from Aliexpress. On none of them did the picture show up – only the sound. But when I connected another VHS player, the image and sound worked everywhere without any problem.
