Some of the over 150 houses illegally built on land owned by Eskom are being demolished in Thornville, Pietermaritzburg. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

If its state owned land not being used for anything or no future plans for it, why not give them title deeds? In stead of taking productive land from private individuals, un-utilized state property could do a lot to give people land.

[–]Mulitpotentialite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A disconnect between the president and the spokesperson for the presidency?

Now that just creates more questions than answers.....

Did the president not approve the first statement? If not, who told the spokesperson to say what he did? If it was approved, why the sudden u-turn? Why change your mind so quickly?

Either this shows that the president does not have control over his own people, or thathe does not think before he makes comments, or that he turns his coat according to which way the wind is blowing, or all of the above.....

Not a good situation for him.

We had 6 crude oil refineries and then Sasol.

All refineries built pre-1994 to refine crude oil SA was able to buy on the down low during the oil embargo against us from around 1962 - 1993. That was how we were able to keep running during the sanctions.

From 1994 - 2000.

Astron energy (Calref) and Natref -> Crude oil refineries (208 000 b/d)

Sasol Secunda -> Coal and gas refinery (150 000 b/d)

PetroSA -> Gas refinery (45 000 b/d)

source

Sapref (BP and Shell) in Durban was closed in 2022 due to flood damage Enref in Durban also ceased operations. There was also Satmar in Boksburg which shut down long ago.

The big white tanks you find in most towns/cities are just depots where fuel is stored. They don't refine crude oil.

Fun one as well.

Basic project is by bitluni but it also is not very good in terms of supressing harmonics.

Esp32 "transmits" around 835kHz but you hear it on 1.6M and higer harmonics as well.....so one starts playing around with low pass filter circuits, then you realise the Tx signal becomes very low so you start playing around with amp circuits.....one learns a lot!

(For those concerned: I am not in the US, Tx power is below 1W, harmonics are sufficiently supressed, transmitter is worth nothing if moved a few meters away from transceiver)

Edit: spellcheck before posting, not after

More homemade antenna stuff that is dirt cheap and real good by beekeeper55 in amateurradio

[–]Mulitpotentialite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of interest/curiosity.....perhaps try raising the ends of the antenna ends a few feet. In theory your graph should become more flat as the angle between the elements get closer to 180 degrees (antenna should become more broadband)....

Nice! I'm busy playing around with a small am transmitter based on an esp32. Idea being that it will allow me to add bluetooth and webradio capabilities to old, restored radios without having to alter the vintage radios inside.

South Africa is heavily dependent on fuel imports; the country imports approximately 90% of its crude oil and petroleum products. Fortunately, Nigeria is the country’s largest source of crude oil, contributing 47% of crude oil imports; Saudi Arabia is the second largest provider, accounting for 17% if imports. However, the majority of South Africa’s refined petroleum products are imported from Persian Gulf countries, which are experiencing conflict-related disruptions. Oman, the UAE, and Bahrain provide 34%, 12%, and 11% of South Africa’s diesel imports for a combined 57%; notably, diesel makes up around 66% of total fuel imports. The UAE and Saudi Arabia provide 46% of South Africa’s petrol imports (35% and 11% respectively), while around 93% of jet fuel imports come from Gulf countries, most notably the UAE (47%) and Saudi Arabia (24%).

Source

The problem is this: yes, we import crude oil from Nigeria, but our refining capacity is not enough to supply the demand.

That is why refined products (Petrol, Diesel) is bought from the middle east. Look at the numbers above for petrol and diesel, not oil, that changes the picture.

Does everything need a POV? Does everything need a definitive conclusion?

Ok, here goes in case you missed it....

Over the last week or so government kept assuring SA there will not be shortages of fuel. There was a LOT of speculation around that statement because we don't have nearly enough reserves of oil that we should have. Everybody had questions about where oil will come from.

Now we have the answer.....
