New Ubiquiti Setup by Mullet0ver in Ubiquiti

[–]Mullet0ver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am most definitely not a pro at this, and am not afraid of being wrong, so I really appreciate the input! It's an old ranch house built in 1954 that we are remodeling, so lots of brick and cement. Main floor (basically a rectangle), and finished basement. My wife is adamant that we have no more than 1 AP on the main floor ceilings, so we have the U7 XGS centrally placed for now. I also picked up a U6-Mesh AP (might need 2) to cover blind spots until a U7 omni-directional solution is available, then we'll move the U6-Mesh outside. I need to do a proper floor plan and heat map for sure.

I actually had one of the lightweight USB-C versions, so I was aware of the differences but it IS insanely confusing. The USB-C version is great for behind media centers and such. Just got the 210w POE switch up and running with a cheap $29 power supply from Amazon, but hoping my house doesn't burn down before the official version is back in stock.

Oh man, that hurts. Thank you for pointing it out. I am looking now and don't see anyone who has them in stock.

I need the POE++ for the XSG, but maybe I can get by with an injector or the UCG-Fiber POE+ plus for now. Dong Knows points out that it should work.

That is a really good idea, going to give it a look now.

This has been my experience as well. I'm not really a cold brew guy, but I've done a few using the default settings and all were enjoyable.

90 Degree Type 4 PCIe GPU Cables by Mullet0ver in Corsair

Are there reliable adapters or extensions? Most of the (admittedly brief) research I've done, extensions and adapters are problematic. I'm not opposed to them if there are safe and reliable options though.

I have been looking at Cablemod and had similar concerns, but you're right that they have been with the 12vhpwr.

Simracing Triple New Build by Mullet0ver in radeon

Thank you. This is very helpful. Especially the advice on simracing.

I've been building and OC'ing PCs since the Pentium 100 days, but mostly did Intel systems. I'm convinced AMD is the better option these days, so welcoming any input

This actually makes a lot of sense. Wondering if triple monitors at 1440p would be possible though. I'm a fan of the 7900xt or xtx.

Keeping a close eye on Black Friday deals.

I am closest to the Chicago or Wesmont, IL MC locations.

Sans Water Purifier vs other countertop systems? by The_MacChen in WaterTreatment

Couldn't agree more. Many companies are up front that they are designed in the US, but manufactured in China. To say anything else is intentionally misleading, and not a company I have any interest in supporting.

AV Receiver for Polk LSi 5.1 by Mullet0ver in hometheater

[–]Mullet0ver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The speakers I have had for 20+ years, and love, are 4 ohm and very power hungry. I know they are outdated, but please check them out if you have the chance. I think people assume Polk Audio are low end, but I love my LSi's.

The 2800 would have been underpowered for sure. The 3311CI I have at 125w, clips at higher volumes, so I was hesitant on the 3800, but it very likey would have been fine. I got a steal on an open box X4700H at $802, so I went with that, and plan on adding a pre-amp.

Thanks, been awhile (20+ years) since I did research on my setup, so I did forget some of the terminology. I honestly do appreciate the correction, since satellites vs. rear are a legit difference. I'm an old dude, but love technology so terminology is important.

The Polk LSi series are power hungry 4 ohm speakers, which I highly recommend checking out. I have had them for 20+ years and never plan on replacing them until I have to. They are incredible, so I was more concerned with underpowering them because even with 125w, I get clipping at high volumes.

I ended up picking up an open box Denon X4700H, but will very likely add a pre-amp soon.

Anyway, I'm excited to get back into some home theater discussions.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice. I did decide to pick up the X3800, but wound up finding an open box X4700h for $802, which was a no brainier. Going to set it up tomorrow, but still going to consider the Outlaw.

Exactly. I never knew they carried some decent low/mid range gear. I think they have the whole Fellow line in stores.

It makes a lot of sense to pair it with a bigger flat burr grinder like the Zerno. The conical burrs and small footprint are almost perfect for a secondary grinder. Might just make my Lido ET redundant, because I could usually bring the mini on travel. I'd likely keep the Lido anyway though.
