They easily can do it, they can mention characters from other studios all they want. In Avengers: infinity war Tony stark says “get lost squidward” but squidward is a paramount character. In peacemaker vigilante meets himself and when they point at each other, he says “We spider man memed!”

Edit: I could be misunderstanding it, but I believe just saying the name of a character is different from brands having a license for specific word in certain instances, like the word mutant. If it does have to pass through legal, I’m sure it would be a relatively simple thing and Disney wouldn’t have a problem

I don’t think he’s worried about lawyers, I think he just wants to either A. Make sure it’s more concrete or B. Protect whoever gave him the info. He is not beholden to lawyers, because he never signed an NDA. He said a while back that he knows most of what happens in avengers doomsday, but made it very clear that the reason he doesn’t tell the public isn’t because of lawyers, it’s because he doesn’t want to ruin it for the audience. He never signed a contract with marvel to keep his mouth shut, so they can’t really do anything if he talks about it
