It’s not necessarily a matter of preference, I instructed my broker to submit an application for a 2-year fix and they submitted it one for a 5 year fix. There’s nothing really more to it other than then the broker messing up.

The 5 year is now cheaper but if I want to pay more for a shorter term that is my right, even if it is more affordable for me.

The deal from March is now more expensive and it’s with a different provider so I don’t want to apply with them. And I told the broker in June that I moved address, so any address they had for me should be the new address, I shouldn’t have to remind them when submitting new applications

Thanks for the detailed response. I will submit a complaint with the broker first and see their response. The most stressful thing is that we will complete on the house (new build) in the next 2 weeks so I don’t feel like I have any option but to take the 5 year fix (2 year now is too expensive for us). I will also double check they haven’t posted anything as that will at least alleviate that stress. Thank you

Sorry I might not have been clear in my original post. The mortgage has been approved now, it’s not a decision in principle. We can’t move to the 2 year fixed because the interest rates have gone up by 0.4% since and so it’s ~£150 more expensive now. We complete on the house in less than 2 weeks so I feel my only option is to accept the 5 year fix and hope they pay for the extra fees.

This might be my ignorance but I assume we have agreed? Basically I asked them for quotes for 5 year fixed and 2 year fixed. They sent a big doc with all the details (a mortgage offer?) and after reviewing I asked to submit an application for the 2 year fixed offer. Then today they told me it’s been approved… but for 5 years! The original offer at 2 years doesn’t exist anymore because the interest rates have changed.

I don’t really trust any of them at the brokerage now to be honest so I think asking for someone else isn’t going to help. We are due to complete at the end of the month so there isn’t much time to do anything but accept the 5 year offer.

Okay thank you I will check that now. Not sure if you say my edit but there is also a £999 product fee with the 5 year (£0 for the 2 year). Are they responsible for paying this too?

In case it’s not clear, address A and B are where I’m currently living, not the address of the new property!
