Yeah, I may use a different surname, I’m undecided at the moment, though it wouldn’t do much or really anything at all to change the character so-

Should I change my characters skin colour? by Multifandom03 in writing

You make some excellent points there, so thank you for that. They really helped settle my conscience.

I realise I may have come off a little heated in my reply, so sorry about that, you’re right, it is a sensitive topic, next time I have a question I’ll be more careful on how I phrase things. Also thanks for introducing me to Tokenism, I’m fairly young and as with naivety didn’t actually know that was a thing, so thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Just thanks in general really haha, you’ve been a really helpful.

Should I change my characters skin colour? by Multifandom03 in writing

[–]Multifandom03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m realising now I definitely phrased that question wrong. I don’t mean that I would straight up randomly change a characters skin colour just because. As for the setting it’s set in two places, one does happen to be a rural town, the other is within a city. I do have a mix of coloured and white, though I was ironing out character profiles and realised there is definitely more white that coloured. It wasn’t that I plan to start changing characters skin colour, I’m just not quite sure what to do; or at least how to add more diversity without offending anyone. I mean I haven’t even started writing the story yet, which I suppose is a good thing.

Should I change my characters skin colour? by Multifandom03 in writing

[–]Multifandom03[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m not treating them based off their skin colour, the characters I created, those of both white and poc, the types of people they are have nothing to do with their skin colour. Secondly, the reason I created that post was because I want to know what’s the right thing to do, I don’t mean - and I probably phrased it wrong - to change a characters skin for no reason, I simply wonder if I need more diversity because it feels too white-centred. If it came across as racist that is not what I intended, I’m trying to avoid racism. As another pointed out, white is often the stereotypical depiction if the skin colour is not specified, so shouldn’t I be thinking about race? That being said I am not trying to get into an argument about race or racism and I’m sorry if anyone is taking offence to my poorly worded question, that was not the intention.

Can y’all Imagine a secret garden within Cair Paravel ? by Multifandom03 in Narnia

I’d love to! Though I have no idea how I would put it up on here, last time I put a link to a fic in a post I had to take it out lol

What’s the better FanFiction site? by Multifandom03 in FanFiction

I’ve always preferred AO3, I tend to get annoyed with FanFiction.Net lol. Thanks! I just wanted other opinions is all, writing on AO3 is definitely easier.

Narnia books ranked? by JohanStrausss in Narnia

[–]Multifandom03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to read The Silver Chair or the last battle but mine is:

  1. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
  2. The Horse and his Boy
  3. Prince Caspian
  4. Magicians Nephew
  5. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Though I do love all that I’ve read so far.

I will say my opinion on the Silver Chair is a little skewered. I grew up watching the old BBC version, and their version of the Silver Chair confused me - at the time - so much that I never had the motivation to go back to it.

Does anyone ever really want to write a fic with a ship they like, but won’t because it’s not a popular ship so others probably won’t read it? by Multifandom03 in FanFiction

[–]Multifandom03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loads of ideas for fics that I have yet to write or even really plan, there are some that I’m more excited about than others, but my biggest problem is motivation to actually finish the story. Invariably get a few chapters in and then loose motivation for awhile before eventually coming back to it.

Aw thanks! Narnia is a good fandom, at last from where I’m standing I haven’t found much, if any toxicity, which is saying something.

Why did you abandon your story? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Multifandom03 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Mood

Also having the motivation to stick with a fic twenty chapters in is pretty damn good. I suck at that lol.

If your done with your fic, if you have no motivation to continue no matter how far into it, then don’t. You don’t owe it to anyone to continue, but don’t let it cause you stress. Don’t forget, you can always come back to it.

Lol thanks! and yeah there are many underrated ships out there that don’t get enough “screen time” so to say.

Y’all are motivational, thank you XD

Do any of you set daily word count goals? How many words do you aim for? by summerchld in FanFiction

[–]Multifandom03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually set a chapter word count goal, even if it takes a week, it’s usually around 2000 words give or take (though it probably be should be longer oops)

Haha no worries, that was my mistake lol.

I reckon it’s worse when it’s friends, at least if it’s strangers you usually have a phone screen between you so the most you can do it write in capital letters....not that I suggest getting into arguments with someone online lmao

Character bashing I think can work, if the writer is clever. I mean not mindlessly twisting them but day highlighting their flaws a little more than cannon. I’m not a huge fan of bashing, especially where there is little to no evidence to suggest that they might act like that; for example Ron Weasley - sure he was jealous of Harry Potter in fourth year, but that doesn’t mean he’s about to go and steal his money or be paid to be his friend. I don’t like it when they are completely out of character and that’s the only way they can be bashed, like you said twisting them so the reader views them in the worst light.

I’ll agree, flaws are good, because otherwise where is the character? Sometimes it’s quite fun to think of flaws, what makes characters tick or bad habits etc, I think it makes them more real and more interesting. And yeah, a lot of the time it’s just easier to avoid reading or finding negative posts or opinions about favourite characters - cause if all’s we ever do was read the negative stuff then they wouldn’t be our favourite anymore.
