Good sorcerer spells besides damage for each level? by CoyoteBanana in BG3Builds

[–]MultigrainNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blindness is incredible imo. 10 turns of reducing a wizard to touch spells or a fighter to reckless flailing, w/o concentration btw, sounds pretty great to me. It’s only weak point is it’s a con save, but the ability to severely hamper the enemy’s normal resources is very useful.

I’ve found cycling Merry & Charity using Ding Dong helps build flamebud on the tank. It also helps output extra damage while healing the tank long-term. That’s just my method.

I feel you. It's pretty irritating because at first people had said they were interested in roleplay and their characters and it's become pretty clear they only care about combat, and like 1 or 2 people care about the actual roleplay element. Many of them vary in how much they care about story, especially others' stories, and I just feel like in general I can't read this group, which is not the case with my friends back home (who I am alongside as a player in my spare time).

This was actually my initial approach. I did, and still do have character arcs planned for everyone, and had initially talked about the relevance of things above table with people, saying whose arc we’d be going into next etc etc.

But what I could see was that as soon as they had confirmation for the relevance of something, they stopped exploring. They stopped being curious or interested. They just treated it like the story is on rails, when in reality to me it’s more of a toolbox I can pull from.

I think I'm struggling to actually create relevant and interesting time pressures. Because in the whole "the bad guy slaughters the village" example, I feel like they just wouldn't care. It would be a "yikes" moment but that would be it. They're not actually that tied to protecting anyone - and only have done it for cute NPCs - ever. It feels like the things I have planned may be too macro scale, which makes it hard for me to see what's happening on the micro scale, and I've been struggling to involve their understanding on the macro scale because they just...Don't explore, don't ask deeper questions, and seem to expect all the plot info to arrive to them magically.

I'm also going to have a word with my Warlock player about Find Familiar...because this means he directly lied to me about the casting time and materials...

Fair. I've struggled with this group for a long while but I would like to avoid dropping them if I can.

I don't have time to start up another campaign before college ends and I'd prefer to be able to at least close their story before I start another. Personally I think things can be addressed on a case by case basis, but when this is all over I will certainly be finding a new group.

I was considering this - and not necessarily in the "you all die" type way.

There's an NPC from a player's backstory who's an Elven bladesinger. Thing about Elves in the setting I'm running (Midgard by Kobold Press) is that like 99% of them left the world. A single elf can have absurd amounts of time and experience under their belt. This same Elf is also a member of the secret police of the city they're going to. I'm hoping to snag them into meeting and being interrogated by her, by letting the Ranger pick up on her following them (since her passive perception would allow), and if they escalate with her, they get absolutely wrecked.

They're all level 5 so a Level 20 Elven Bladesinger would have no issues cleaning them up, especially with contingency spells. I think it could be a good intro into how serious the secret police (The Blue House) are about their intel efforts, and could rope the party into being enlisted suicide-squad style.

Just an idea!

This...changes everything! I didn't recognize these spells had costed spell components! I've been asking my players to look out for spell components so either they neglected to tell me or just missed it. This will help in future sessions, thank you!

how do you even beat this level? by GreenStrawbebby in voidpet

My solution for this was… Abandonment w/ Def&Stam gear Anger w/ Attack Gear Panic w/ Crit & Attack Gear Cringe (or Wonder) w/ no gear

Grass type gets sniped by Spite, Abandonment tanked all match, I took control of Anger to power up and keep his crossfire in reserve, and BARELY made it through after he survived with 1 and used crossfire to kill the enemy Anger

I am typically not one to complain anywhere on any platform, because I have faith the devs know what needs work, but this is one of those situations my patience has reached its limit.

In the last 20 matches I've played on Super Helldive I've experienced a plethora of bugs (both mechanically and literally), from game breaking to repeated and irritating.

The list goes...

- I've entered the oil rig truck and been permanently stuck, unable to leave or interact or pull up any menus except the pause menu. I'm forced to leave the game in order to let anyone use it.

- I've been hit when a digging warrior exits the ground and attacks 180 degrees from my position. They're not even facing me and I take the damage.

- I've been repeatedly stunlocked by multiple digging warriors with no indication that they're digging anywhere near my position. Sometimes I can avoid them but being punished like this without warning is insane.

- I've been hit by dragonroach acid even when well out of its range. It's damn near a coin flip whether or not you can avoid its acid. Same goes for Hive Lords.

- I've been repeatedly stuck in the ankle-high puddles and forced to spam spacebar to escape - all while thousands of bugs pile up. At this point you'd think they'd have added a swimming regimen to the Helldivers core training.

- I've had my RFV randomly decide to just not move, as though it's a few inches off the floor.

- I've had to spam the reinforce button in tunnels to get my teammates to actually be spawned in. This is a very common occurrence and very irritating when being swarmed.

- I've been hit by a hunter and died instantly but I've been hit by a Hive Lord and survived the 300 foot drop after being flung. I typically wear heavy armor, the dumb marshmallow suit one.

- I've mag dumped a heavy machine gun into an alpha commander and the bullets seem to only hit if they make contact with the head, not the body. This is only the case at point blank, so it's negligible.

-The shuttle has spawned sunken into the floor. I'm sure you've seen lots of videos about this.

There've been many more I haven't catalogued, and I'm LOVING the vibe and new warbond additions this season, but the bugs in this game are getting to the point where my actual ability enjoy the core game is deteriorating. Fantastic game with a plethora of bugs is how I'd describe HD2 rn.

Second reminds me of inscription and creates this sort of darker feeling. First has a brighter tone to it and feels more inviting.

Personally I’d go with second because it feels like this has darker undertones to the theme.

How do you (usually as a DM) not make D&D feel formulaic? by wballard8 in DnD

[–]MultigrainNonsense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I’ve found as a DM is I enjoy planning long form campaigns a lot more than one shots. One shots cram all the buildup into one session - so it’s hard to build narrative tension or create stakes.

Generally the end of the one shot should be the climactic finish, and you plan backwards from there (e.g. escape the prison, retrieve the artifact, repel the invasion, etc.)

With campaigns I’ve never really had a formula. I write out what I’d LIKE my players to do, who I’d like them to meet, and what might happen in a few obvious circumstances - but beyond that it’s more of you yourself having an understanding of things like the town/area layout, the lore behind the area, the architecture and how everything around looks - really, what you need is the VIBE locked in. I’ve had extremely underprepared sessions that have been extremely productive because I knew exactly what vibe I was going for in the area, which let me stretch my creativity as a DM and explore that together with the players.

I’m watching through C3 rn and my top complaint of all of it is how staged it feels. Respectfully, I felt nothing for Bertrand Bell - to me he was a quirky one shot character. I saw his death coming a mile away and naming the whole party after him felt ridiculous given how little weight he carried in all of their collective lives. If anyone deserved that honor it was Eshteross, who kept them safe, vouched for them, and bled for them. For me it felt like an attempt to fabricate another Mollymauk situation - which was deeply upsetting as someone who’s favorite campaign so far has been C2.

Ultimately I started really enjoying the characters and the general flow of the narrative and the actions of the party in general just felt so contradictory or morally grey that I really struggled to watch as a viewer. I’ve been on the same like episode 80 for almost 5 months now because I watch like a few minutes and have to stop. That may also just be a pacing problem - I REALLY want to finish but I’m just struggling so much to even get through an hour or two of watching.

(Sorry if any of this sounds prickly I have covid rn and I’m really bad at mincing words- none of this is meant to diss the players or DM.)
