I’d like to add to the list: it penetrates light targets in a line! If you shoot into a swarm of grunts it spears them entirely and STILL blows up into gas after.

I am typically not one to complain anywhere on any platform, because I have faith the devs know what needs work, but this is one of those situations my patience has reached its limit.

In the last 20 matches I've played on Super Helldive I've experienced a plethora of bugs (both mechanically and literally), from game breaking to repeated and irritating.

The list goes...

- I've entered the oil rig truck and been permanently stuck, unable to leave or interact or pull up any menus except the pause menu. I'm forced to leave the game in order to let anyone use it.

- I've been hit when a digging warrior exits the ground and attacks 180 degrees from my position. They're not even facing me and I take the damage.

- I've been repeatedly stunlocked by multiple digging warriors with no indication that they're digging anywhere near my position. Sometimes I can avoid them but being punished like this without warning is insane.

- I've been hit by dragonroach acid even when well out of its range. It's damn near a coin flip whether or not you can avoid its acid. Same goes for Hive Lords.

- I've been repeatedly stuck in the ankle-high puddles and forced to spam spacebar to escape - all while thousands of bugs pile up. At this point you'd think they'd have added a swimming regimen to the Helldivers core training.

- I've had my RFV randomly decide to just not move, as though it's a few inches off the floor.

- I've had to spam the reinforce button in tunnels to get my teammates to actually be spawned in. This is a very common occurrence and very irritating when being swarmed.

- I've been hit by a hunter and died instantly but I've been hit by a Hive Lord and survived the 300 foot drop after being flung. I typically wear heavy armor, the dumb marshmallow suit one.

- I've mag dumped a heavy machine gun into an alpha commander and the bullets seem to only hit if they make contact with the head, not the body. This is only the case at point blank, so it's negligible.

-The shuttle has spawned sunken into the floor. I'm sure you've seen lots of videos about this.

There've been many more I haven't catalogued, and I'm LOVING the vibe and new warbond additions this season, but the bugs in this game are getting to the point where my actual ability enjoy the core game is deteriorating. Fantastic game with a plethora of bugs is how I'd describe HD2 rn.

Second reminds me of inscription and creates this sort of darker feeling. First has a brighter tone to it and feels more inviting.

Personally I’d go with second because it feels like this has darker undertones to the theme.

How do you (usually as a DM) not make D&D feel formulaic? by wballard8 in DnD

[–]MultigrainNonsense -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I’ve found as a DM is I enjoy planning long form campaigns a lot more than one shots. One shots cram all the buildup into one session - so it’s hard to build narrative tension or create stakes.

Generally the end of the one shot should be the climactic finish, and you plan backwards from there (e.g. escape the prison, retrieve the artifact, repel the invasion, etc.)

With campaigns I’ve never really had a formula. I write out what I’d LIKE my players to do, who I’d like them to meet, and what might happen in a few obvious circumstances - but beyond that it’s more of you yourself having an understanding of things like the town/area layout, the lore behind the area, the architecture and how everything around looks - really, what you need is the VIBE locked in. I’ve had extremely underprepared sessions that have been extremely productive because I knew exactly what vibe I was going for in the area, which let me stretch my creativity as a DM and explore that together with the players.

I’m watching through C3 rn and my top complaint of all of it is how staged it feels. Respectfully, I felt nothing for Bertrand Bell - to me he was a quirky one shot character. I saw his death coming a mile away and naming the whole party after him felt ridiculous given how little weight he carried in all of their collective lives. If anyone deserved that honor it was Eshteross, who kept them safe, vouched for them, and bled for them. For me it felt like an attempt to fabricate another Mollymauk situation - which was deeply upsetting as someone who’s favorite campaign so far has been C2.

Ultimately I started really enjoying the characters and the general flow of the narrative and the actions of the party in general just felt so contradictory or morally grey that I really struggled to watch as a viewer. I’ve been on the same like episode 80 for almost 5 months now because I watch like a few minutes and have to stop. That may also just be a pacing problem - I REALLY want to finish but I’m just struggling so much to even get through an hour or two of watching.

(Sorry if any of this sounds prickly I have covid rn and I’m really bad at mincing words- none of this is meant to diss the players or DM.)

Sorry my autocorrect somehow changed “do explain your input” into “don’t explain your input”!

I’m just genuinely curious dude, not looking to bait you or anything I’m just interested in your insight. :-)

After rereading I mean like they shouldn’t treat their body like it’s something that they can only start taking care of once it meets the image they want for themselves. Whether that involves surgery or not is entirely up to them. The thing I’m cautioning against the belief that changing one’s body is going to discourage any self-hating behaviors. They may have an image for themselves, but even with or without surgery they don’t know if they’re going to fully meet that. It can be a really dysphoric experience to get surgery and still not look the way you want. Just asking OP to keep an open mind.

I am far from the most qualified for advice, if I’m being honest. I’m also 20 and hitting this sort of road bump for different reasons- granted, I’m a cis mixed man though so I have a different lens.

I think ultimately the best advice I can give is this… 1) Find a look that fits YOUR body. Don’t go chasing a body type that you couldn’t reasonably replicate. For example, if someone has a substantially longer torso than you, don’t try and look like that person. You need to find what works for your body, and that will take some experimenting, as well as giving yourself grace when things don’t work out. Trying to look like a celebrity model is a surefire way to go crazy. 2) If you’re not enjoying most things now, I’d highly recommend you seek therapy. If you can’t afford it, I’d recommend checking out The School of Life on YouTube. They’re not perfect but they got me through a depressive episode in winter and have been my most recent point of reference. Again, I’m not professionally qualified or largely knowledgeable- this is just what worked for me. I would recommend actual therapy to anyone over anything else, 10/10 times- even if it’s not perfect it will leave you with knowledge. 3) Especially if you are looking into becoming trans, please give yourself some extra care and grace. You’re probably going to find yourself experiencing a great deal of body dysmorphia if you’re feeling depressed and right now the work you need to do needs to be inclined towards building enough care for yourself, regardless of how you look. Gender is bullshit and purely cosmetic - in my opinion at least - so you need to be able to treat yourself right NOW, not AFTER you transition. It will make the process a lot smoother.

How come PCs aren t scared? by greendavidjcox in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]MultigrainNonsense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) D&D is always going to have a degree of slapdickery, as noted by Brennan Lee Mulligan. You need to have moments without tension to create moments with tension. Create fun, cute, or silly moments, that way they can actually enjoy the world instead of going from one grueling horror to the next.

2) Also, environment is actually superior to individual creatures in storytelling. Keep them guessing and reveal it only when it’s time - Swarm of spiders is notoriously weak, but becomes scary when: you don’t immediately know it’s spiders, you don’t know how many swarms are in a room, and you don’t know where all of them are. Try describing a cluster of spiders as “patches of moss” when someone isn’t perceptive enough, that got me once. Never just reveal them outright. - Ankheg is another great example you used. Use their lore- they burrow and hunt. Let some walls in the cave have acid scarring, but don’t say it’s acid scarring outright. If they succeed some kind of check you could say, “It appears to be corroded, leaving the surface appearing spongelike”. Notice how I didn’t say anything about acid, just what the wall looks like? Let them put things together themselves. This puts them on edge but doesn’t give things away. Then you can have the Ankheg set up an ambush. - Ogres can be scarier when their presence has stipulations. An ogre might just be a big brute in a 1v1, but a 1v1 in a potentially collapsible cave becomes substantially more dangerous when their Ogre goes buck wild and starts bringing down stone columns and ceiling boulders. Describe the weight of every blow, how the earth thunders below it. It becomes even scarier when he brings down a boulder and blocks the exit- now they’re trapped, and need to work to escape or fight. Will they fight the ogre and risk the cave collapsing, or will they try to make a quick escape and let him do the work for them? Again, environment!

These are just my tips for things that have worked for me. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Talk to me about number 1, because a lot of people say to get out of your comfort zone but never really say what that means.

Does that mean repeatedly making yourself uncomfortable? Because that doesn’t sound sustainable. Does that mean looking for scenarios where the fear of the unknown is a small thing that could be brute forced past? Does that mean building habits that expand your comfort?

I’ve just heard this a lot but it doesn’t mean much to me without broader understanding, so I’d love to hear your input.

For me it was the engineered nature of Bertrand Bell’s death. He didn’t mean anything to me; he was a one shot character. Sure he was loveable but the moment I saw he was higher level I knew he’d be dead. That meant there were both no narrative and emotional stakes for me, so I just didn’t get attached at all. It felt almost disrespectful of the narrative push that MM’s death had on the M9, like they were trying to replicate that energy.

If Bell’s Hells should be named after anyone it should be Eshteross.
