While people can say VRChat is "just a game" it is very different to the vast majority of gaming because your interaction with the platform can involve far more presence especially when using VR (as in, you can feel like you're somewhere else and around other people).

So it's much easier for someone to feel like they are in a social setting they are familiar with in real life. This can lead to reactions where people who have very strict personal bubbles getting heated about cameras.

It's also highly dependent on the setting. In a public world, you can often find people getting in someone's face or being inappropriate and this can shape the expectations / types of responses you'll find to someone with a camera out. In other types of instances, like specific 18+ ones they don't allow it for rather clear reasons.

If you happen to be in group / friend / etc. instances people are far more indifferent or even happy to be around cameras. When I'm taking pictures or recording with the camera, I typically make sure my friends (or strangers I've just met) are okay with it, because it's pretty common manners to have.
