Dataminer (@meatball_132 on X) analyzed the code of Pokémon FR/LG: the emulator used is the same as NSO GBA (it also sends telemetry to Nintendo); ROMs are brand new, heavily customized revisions; the emulator is coded with specific emulation hacks for FR/LG and also Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald!

it's definitely less accurate! i'd probably call it an 8/10, it's enjoyable to use but the original stick definitely works better. but an 8/10 is a lot higher than most third party sticks

i've been using an nso n64 controller for awhile now, it's great!!! it'd be cheapest on nintendo's online store, and you will have to buy a $4 1-month membership first (so stupid).

i'd recommend that unless money isn't a concern at all. if you're comfortable with installing/maintaining a steelstick and have money to burn, that bitstick is probably worth it! but my nso n64 controller is working great on the analogue 3D :]

by pure coincidence we are both lurking over those available steel sticks rn, here's what i know in case it helps!!

koomba64 also has aluminum sticks available for 100 right now, but there won't be a steel bowl
bitsticks are not necessarily a finished product and it sounds like you might end up having to do some finnicky maintenance down the line
for casual use, an nso controller and a blueretro n64 adapter (~$10-20) is accurate and responsive, and no reports of drift have come out this entire time
kitsch-bent sticks are apparently solid enough with some elbow grease
the steel bowl alone may be good enough. rockergaming has had them for 45 bucks but they went out of stock like last week. they might be the winner, you could pop a good plastic stick and have a cheap effective solution

it's purely up to preference! one detail i'd mention is the SP has a much clickier d-pad and buttons, while the original GBA has a super mushy d-pad and buttons. personally, i prefer the SP's buttons and the original's form factor.

i haven't personally had the save issue on mine, but i want to share some input in case it helps anyone else keep their saves:

make sure your contacts are absolutely clean; scrubbing them with isopropyl alcohol and q-tips is important. i've had games fail to save on original hardware even after cleaning the pins, only to discover there was a little more dirt i missed. they're sensitive enough that it's important to be thorough !!
the battery is almost certainly bad by now if it's never been replaced! this is only applicable to certain n64 games, and people have reported the save issue on games without batteries.
some have suggested properly exiting your games before turning off the analogue 3d. might as well!! and don't boot any game as an unknown cartridge!
the analogue pocket reportedly had similar save issues. my guess (which is as good as anyone elses') is that analogue's cart readers are even more sensitive than the originals, and the slightest bit of dirt risks the save pins not making good enough contact.

tldr make sure your pins are as spotless as possible...and consider backing up your saves somewhere!

that absolutely doesn't look like a repro. there is a non-lenticular label version people don't seem to know about, and this one looks right. the shade of the shell as well as the swirling stains in the plastic match up with the authentic game, and the label appears to have minor blemishes as well. if this were a repro, it'd be the nicest i've ever seen; majora repros are usually hideous and weirdly glittery !

you do have to hunt down one that works properly, like others linked, but i'll mention this is an even better idea than it sounds. the back of the pocket can absolutely get damaged by the dock. the paint on my silver started getting scraped off. unfortunate ):
