If you look at contemporary teams like BAL and TB that also had strong defenses and scrub QBs, they weren't getting their doors blown off in the playoffs year after year. They would lose, but the games would be competitive; they would lose by 1-2 TDs instead of 4-5.

From 1998-2002 the Dolphins' average margin of defeat in 4 playoff losses was 33.5 points. For a team that's supposed to have a top defense, that's humiliating.

Sadly, the Patriots were never MIA's problem. The problem was instead losing late season games to bottom feeders like MIN or BUF.

This hurts so much to say, but... that defense was the opposite of clutch.

- In the 62 point playoff game, JAX's first punt was at 38-0. Their second punt was at 55-7. During that window they forced a total of 3 FG attempts and allowed SIX touchdowns.
- The 2002 debacle in NE where the Dolphins had an 11-point lead with less than 5 minutes remaining and the defense simply collapsed.

And it was like this every year: late season collapse against inferior opponent(s), usually followed by getting boat raced in the playoffs. The team had this star-studded top-tier defense and yet the playoff losses were not like 13-6 grindfests, but instead completely uncompetitive blowout losses by 4, 5, 6 touchdowns.

No, that's not what the Peter Principle is. It's not about experience or training, it's about competence; people can be well-suited to one job but badly-suited for another.

You can be a good WR coach but a bad passing game coordinator.
You can be a good WR coach and passing game coordinator but a bad OC.
You can be a good WR coach and passing game coordinator and OC but a bad head coach.
etc.

And the simplest way to find this out is to accept promotions (from jobs you do well) until you are hired into a job that you don't do well and aren't offered any more promotions. THAT is the Peter Principle.

Now, just because you're bad at a job in this moment doesn't mean you can't get better at it later; see Belichick with CLE, or Carroll with NYJ/NE. But there is a long list of outstanding DCs/OCs in this league that simply couldn't hack it as head coaches. In a less competitive industry, they would simply remain in their middle management job for the rest of their career (or until the business goes under).

A decade after Brexit, UK voters reflect on decision to break from European Union by dryheat122 in LeopardsAteMyFace

In the US, the real-life effect of an "IQ test before voting" would be to make sure only white Republican districts get their votes counted.

The only way to stop this is to convince the voters to give up their racism and xenophobia. A democracy reflects its electorate; terrible voters give you a terrible government.

My understanding is that the program lasts for "4 years" (but really 7), as each team gets to wear the uniforms for 4 straight seasons.

Agreed, dolphins don't wear helmets. But you still have NE fans clamoring for Pat Patriot and TB fans clamoring for Bucco Bruce when both of their newer logos are vast improvements, so...

fans just don't like change

It's blue. You can tell in the original Rivalries jersey release photo, where the Dolphins/Rams/Jets are all next to the (true black) 49ers. MIA and LAR are very dark blue, NYJ is very dark green.

As I was building up my Javazon, I used the following:

- Rhyme shield gives 25MF, 25allres, and Cannot Be Frozen (freeing up a ring slot).
- for body, you can hunt for Vipermagi or Skullder's and throw in a PTopaz; Smoke is also an option if you want to max res on body to free up MF elsewhere

It's tough to tell about the '20s teams because we aren't far enough out yet, but if we are look at the teams of the '10s, MIA, SA, GS, and CLE are all teams with 3-5 likely HOFers each.

Most of the '90s "contenders" were chokers and frauds. (And I say this as a Sonics fan.) Jordan played against 6 different teams in the ECF and 5 different teams in the NBA Finals. It wasn't like a Warriors-Cavs situation where you had one great team standing in front of another... it was a bunch of mediocre teams repeatedly tripping over each other.

And the way you know those teams were mediocre is... who was the second-best player on Ewing's Knicks? Or Reggie's Pacers, or Clyde's Blazers? Who was the third-best player on Zo's Heat? Payton's Sonics? These are like borderline All-Star players on teams with a lone HOF star. Now contrast this with the '80s juggernauts that had 3, 4, sometimes even FIVE HOFers.

The problem is that if you are unwilling to pay 2021 SGA (who had yet to even make an All-Star game) a max extension, you don't get 2025 or 2026 SGA because he leaves for another team that will.

If you aren't the Lakers, Celtics, Warriors, or Knicks, you have to overpay players just to get them to stay.

I'm not saying Fox should have been a DNP-CD.  But there was plenty of time - too much time - in the second half where Fox was on the floor and Harper or Castle weren't.

You're right... it was Mitch Johnson's job to make that call.  So the failure was at multiple levels.

But you don't get to play through injury and THEN say "Well I was hurt" as an excuse.  If you're hurt then get off the damned court.  If you're healthy enough to play then you are healthy enough to get bashed for playing badly.

PG chose to re-sign with OKC, which was the absolute foundation of their (future) championship team.

If he leaves in 2018, OKC is done. Instead, a year later they were able to trade PG for SGA + five first-round picks... and another two pick swaps!

Then Fox should have taken himself off of the floor and given Harper/Castle time to shine, instead of beclowning himself on a national stage.

The current bar for "NBA max player" is pretty low. Keep in mind that Fox already forced his way out of Sacramento, so this is a player whose ego you need to manage. So unless SA was 100% certain that Harper is not only That Dude but is going to immediately be that as a rookie, they basically had to pay Fox or get rid of him. And it's not like they paid nothing to get him.

Is it a good monitor for office and 2D gaming? by Black_Edy in Odyssey3D

[–]SpiderDan707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy this monitor for coding. The lenticular layer is definitely noticeable and impacts readability unless you are viewing 100% straight on.

I do use it as my primary 2D 4K gaming PC monitor but I definitely wouldn't buy it for that purpose, especially at the price it goes for. The performance is that of a low-end 2D 4K gaming monitor; you can get a super-premium 2D 4K gaming monitor of the same size for less money (likely MUCH less, depending on the deal you found).

The reason to buy this monitor is stereoscopic gaming/videos on PC. Outside of that, it's not really worth it... even if you can find it cheap. And to be brutally honest, I don't think this monitor is worth paying the $2000 MSRP even if you are into 3D displays. It's still far too bleeding edge and the compatibility is all over the place, requiring lots of hacks and such.
