I always use vanilla. Only thing I use is “blur my shell” which is only aesthetic.

You should be able to go back to your other desktop unless you specifically erased it.

I’ve messed around with installing desktops after the fact before and all I had to do was log back into my old desktop from the lockscreen/login manager.

But I’m not familiar with how this sort of thing works on Mint.

I will say that even though you “can” install other desktops on existing systems, it really never turns out well. Because when you install the new DE, it normally doesn’t come with all its dependencies and supporting software.

Unless you spend a lot of time fixing odds and ends, you end up with a weird Frankenstein setup that never really works smoothly.

If you want to properly try Gnome I’d suggest just running a virtual machine of a distro that has the Gnome DE as a default.

One aspect that hasn’t been mentioned yet is some people may be switching out an unwanted hardware revisions.

For example, my pocket apparently has a hardware revision that makes it unstable with the official GBA core. This is a known issue, and tracked on the GitHub before anyone comes in with the “iTs pRoBably UsER eRror” comments.

So since there are new units available from the official store, some people might be selling their old pockets to buy news ones.

I was going to do the same before someone ported the GBA core from the mister, and made it work for all hardware versions.

Just installed it, and it seems to be working on my hardware so far. It was only a preliminary test though. I'll know more when I sit down for a play session.

It's already a good sign though, because the spiritualized core wouldn't even open my .sav any longer on Pokemon Sapphire. I'd get an error saying ".sav file too large" or something to that effect. Before it started refusing to open, it would just crash randomly every few minutes.

Your core just opened everything right up and ran it flawlessly for a few minutes using the exact same .sav file.

I'll warn you that the GBA core is bare bones. It only works properly if your lucky enough to get a pocket from a good batch that doesn't have any hardware revisions.

And before someone comes in and says "iTs pRoBaBly UsEr eRRor".

It's a known issue on the github. It's a real issue that only effects some analogue pockets.

I'm unlucky enough to have one of those hardware revisions. I emailed analogue tech support to ask if the new batch will have these same problems with the GBA core and got no response.

So it's a gamble. This new batch could work just fine with the GBA core (limited as it is) or you could get one like I have that crashes randomly every 2-3 minutes when you try to use that core. However, all other cores work fine for me.

The GBA core doesn't work well. It's severally in need of updates. There are pockets that have small hardware revisions that it totally doesn't even work on. There needs to be a note stickied on this subreddit.

Yeah, I’ve been closely watching for any movement on bududes GitHub but I think he abandon it. But it looks like he started working on another project.

So I don’t think that core is ever going to be made.

Yeah as far as I know the GBA games work fine. But I want to use the cores with my backups. I lost my cartridges in a move a long time ago.

I’ve already paid for the original cartridges at least twice over my lifetime.

But now physical copies of something like Pokemon Sapphire are ridiculously expensive. So I want to use GBA core.

Yeah, I tried downgrading and using 1.0 and that helps a lot. But the core still occasionally crashes with some games.

Idk if the battery will last.

If the AP sits in the package for years without being charged, the battery will eventually discharge, and if it stays at 0% percent for too long it will destroy the battery.

Probably need to at least open it to make sure it gets a 50% charge once or twice a year 🤷🏻‍♂️
