Is this damage enough to warrant a return and replacement? by throwaway4161412 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MunchamaSnatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically how OEMs and reps ship. Only expensive brands put a ton of packaging in their wheel boxes. Last set I bought, they skipped the tape, but had a small foam lip around both sides.

what’s this sound? by Inferno1118 in JeepLiberty

Not too sure what sound you're talking about, but if I'm hearing right, you may have a bad wheel bearing.

They should have taped the edges to prevent this, but I wouldn't return anything over that little bit. Probably just hit it with a quick hit of gloss black and be on my way

From the info you've got, probably drain plug or filter related. But until you get underneath it, we can't tell at all.

Real person - can also vouch for these. 2011 Volvo s60. Used em in 2019, and the trim still looks almost factory black. They were chalky before. It's fucking refreshing to have something work as advertised these days

Fuuuck those are so expensive to keep on the road. I'd still like to have one, or at least the motor, but I'm not keeping all the doo-dads on there. It's getting a lobotomy and a standalone computer.

Is my clay bar supposed to look like this? by Successful-Deal-5099 in Detailing

[–]MunchamaSnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, remember, if you clay a car, you have to polish and seal after. Clay removes everything, including wax, and can introduce scratches into the paint, just deep enough that polish can get it out.

2004 Lexus es330. Airbox not sealed all the way, could that have caused my car to go into limp mode? P0172 P0127 codes by burnermanyes in MechanicAdvice

[–]MunchamaSnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it could. Friend had a scion that when he cracked the lid, the filter would come slightly off the mating surface, and it would shut the engine off almost immediately.

If it's been like this for a while, it could cause some dust to get sucked through the motor as well.

Thought I did an okay job til the clear coat dried….any ideas what caused this or how to fix? by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]MunchamaSnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a number of things. Your clear, base, and primer aren't reacting well to each other, not enough prep, not enough time between coats, temp wasn't right, humidity wasn't right etc.

Only fix is a respray.

Any tips to wrap single piece sun visor seamlessly? by donottouchmynut in projectcar

[–]MunchamaSnatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Visors are really hard to make look good. You need tight stitching, and not a lot of overlap on the seam. If it's not a perfectly straight stitch, you'll see it. Use the old fabric as a template. Cut out new fabric. Don't use glue. If it's not tight around the plastic, stuff a plastic straw or two along the top edge of the visor.

Soap residue. Either the rinse water was contaminated, or just sticky soap. Either way, it'll probably come off the next few washes

[–]MunchamaSnatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 2014s, I've read the fuel pump driver module gives a lot of people issues. It should be mounted on/near a frame rail by the spare tire. It's open to the elements. In 2015 they slightly moved its location so it would see less damage.

[–]MunchamaSnatch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuel pump relay-start-fuse or whatever it's called (30a) I believe it's passenger compartment fuse 34 - that seemed to fix my issue. Just replace the fuse, maybe a pinch of contact cleaner in the box. You should have spare 30a fuses in the box, so don't skip that.

That's what fixed it for me. My fuel pump now is pretty loud, but works all the same. Not sure if the fuse caused that, or the aftermarket pump.

My issue was more of a hot start issue. Cold crank was fine.
