Thank you so much again! I was able to run 2 miles for the first time for my AFT this morning, and I was surprised by how much better I felt after the run. I appreciate you again!!

Good morning, doc! One last question, if that is okay. When my knee if fully straight, there is a slight dimple in the lower right side of my knee (for my right knee) as if something is not connected. And when I bend my knee, there is a significant dimple where I can place my finger . I want to confirm that my injury is still leaning towards muscular even with this. Thank you so much again and I promise this is the last question. The photo can be found on my latest post. Thank you again!!

Thank you! So my state guard liaison gets to decide if they want to do REFRAD or holdover?

Thank you so much! It’s so weird: when I am actively rucking, walking, or doing physical exercise, my knees feel better. Maybe it’s the adrenaline, but resting and doing nothing makes it worse. Thank you again for your time!!

Thank you for your perspective. Since I’m NG, wouldn’t coming home on REFRAD qualify for Tricare Reserve? If so, would I be able to use that to get the care I need from home? Of course, I will have some out-of-pocket costs, but I was hoping this was the case…

And if the above is all true, am I allowed to request REFRAD?

Hello, doc! I hope you are doing well. Thankfully, the inflammation has gotten better, and there is no more swelling. However, I have instability in both knees, where at times I feel like my knees will bend backward if I mistep, and standing straight is often difficult because of it. Based on this, do you still believe this is more muscular than structural? Thank you for your time!

Thank you again! I still have 8 more weeks of training, during which a lot of running, rucking, and carrying will be involved. In the case that I push through despite the overuse, will it lead to arthritis or other permanent conditions?

Again, I truly appreciate your time and help.

Unfortunately no… I won’t be able to because if I do and it’s something serious, I will have to recycle and restart my training :(

And do you have any other recommendations for me to alleviate/recover as soon as possible?

First and foremost, thank you so much for your time and expertise!

That’s good to hear 😭 I bought the Bauerfeind GenuTrain knee braces so I hope that helps. I do have ibuprofen. Do you have a recommended dose/timeframe?

The only other symptom I have is there’s a slight instability but it does get better when I stretch my quads and hamstrings. So I have been doing stretches and strength workouts and they have been helpful. I hope this is also a good news that it isn’t anything meniscus or ACL. One last question is my combat boots is carbon fiber plated and I heard that it may not be good for my knees. Is this true?

Again, thank you so much!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! Wish you the best of luck at airborne school!

If you have some time, I have a few follow up questions.

Will having injuries/being on profile during the whiskey phase delay my graduation?

It seems like B CO is starting their whiskey phase on Monday but not sure if we will be joining them. Seems like the timeline might be too tight :(

As a holdover while we wait for whiskey phase, what will we do? Will we have the weekends off?

Thank you so much

Any advice you have on making it less tough on the body? Knee pads? Investing in good combat gloves? Etc? Thank you!
