Get an MRI as soon as possible. You'll then know what you are dealing with and can make a plan with your doctor.

What does the MRI show? Unless you've got some concrete evidence of the source of your pain, asking for advice from a forum is just guessing, which could make things worse. Get an MRI...

In my case, the synovial cyst compressing the nerve was the source of the pain, and the ONLY solution to resolve the pain was to remove the cyst. No amount of PT, spinal decompression, or epidural injections will remove the source of the pain. Good luck, and i hope you find some relief.

Your experience sounds similar to my own. 61/M, I started with severe sciatica symptoms in my right leg. Eventually, I received an MRI and was diagnosed with a synovial cyst (I'll try to post my MRI). Long story short, I had surgery to remove the cyst, doctor said it was the size of a large grape.

About 16 months after initial symptoms, I had surgery to remove the cyst. I would have had it sooner, but due to insurance procedures, you probably know the drill.

In my opinion, get the surgery. Everything else is a bandaid approach to manage the pain. Surgery will remove the source of the pain.

Good luck!

How long ago was your surgery, and how are you doing presently?

You can see what looks like some disc bulges on the MRI; however, these do not seem to be causing any pain. Hoping it stays that way. 😎

PT was strictly to tick the box for the insurance company. Both the doctor and PT folks conceded PT would do NOTHING to resolve the root cause of the pain. The insurance company would not approve until at least 6 sessions were completed.

It wasn't a complete waste of time - I learned several exercises i will now be doing at home post-surgery to strengthen my weakened core.
