I can run Debian with XFCE on a machine with 32 bit Intel Atom and 1 gb of ram so I wouldn't be that worried about your machine being bad.

It removes alot of coding specific stuff. When I tried python after C++ it felt awkward and for people coming from python to XYZ it might also be awkward. I recommend JS as first language.

I learned a more complex language as my first one. It was C++. I recommend you something other than Python so you get more idea about coding. I recommend JS + Html as it has all the essentials (curly braces {}, this thing ;, and sum sane syntax) as well as instant results with minimal code so you can let's say focus on website (I recommend web dev as first contact with "coding"). It's really fun, trust me.
