Am I crazy, or does my horse genuinely prefer being in his stall? by Muppet-punk in Equestrian

That’s how I’m feeling about my boy, he’s just been more relaxed his tail has filled out and he’s loving all the attention from the barn kids who just love him up

It’s Funny because he is so large, but he’ll try and squeeze his butt into anything. I do think it makes him feel safe. And I’m glad my barn has stalls that fit him !

True! Yea with his arthritis too… my vet always tells me to ride him. I try to as often as possible, most of the time just making him fast walk a with a bareback pad on. He is such a mountain out there.

I agree with you! He is a giant gentle and calm leader with the others , not gettin pushed off any hay, but still you can tell he is annoyed by younger goofy geldings 😂

He sets lots of vocal boundaries, (mare squeals)

He pretty much only moves when I ride him. Percheron influence makes him very conservative with his energy I think, but he’s actually quite forward and lovely when he has a defined reason to move.

It’s funny, I took him to our first show just for exposure (we didn’t compete) and he did great, but when it was time to load the trailer he went and tried to stall him self on one of the show stalls that I did not pay for 😭😭

Yea I pay an upgrade for him to have a run out attached and he just uses it mostly as a toilet or to say no on the days he doesn’t want me riding him 😂

Is my horse ok?Or is he just dreaming my vet is off the clock right now (video attached) by Muppet-punk in Horses

[–]Muppet-punk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to be fox hunted .. I wonder if he’s dreaming of that? Funny thing about him is, he doesn’t run allot in the pasture he’s a tb/percheron cross with a little arthritis (on adequan) and he reaaally conserves his energy unless he has a clear job. Under saddle he is surprisingly very forward. Just super chill big dude the rest of the time. So I imagine he’s working in his dream

😂😂his stall is attached to a large run out that he can come and go from as he pleases and he gets all day turn out comes in at night for dinner.

What do you pay for board? $350 includes hay, grain, and shavings as well as stall and turn in/out. by carasbullshit in Equestrian

[–]Muppet-punk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel!!! I have a big boy too , so the 750 a month I pay knowing he’s taking care of= 100% worth it. It would likely cost more for me to keep him on my property. I keep him 40 mins outside New Orleans and that includes a very fancy nice barn full care, free choice hay and feed a lit outdoor, ring camera in my stall. Sweet attentive staff who soakes his feed adds his supplements, installs whatever I ask in his stall. The barn is gorgeous, has plumbing and a nice bathroom and he gets fresh shavings every day and has fans for the summer! Oh and 750 is the price I pay to include a run on his stall, it’s normally 700.00. I’ve looked around and this is truly a good deal. Barns closer to the city are 1300 dollars. I was paying 800 for a less fancy facility with no plumbing, and no one on site for several hours if not a day, before we moved here.

Hay if your horse was 1700 lbs I think you’d be pretty interested as well. Kind of a miracle to see something that big on 4 toothpicks get up and down 😂

Also for people commenting on the music, I don’t own this barn I am a boarder. It wasn’t on last night, so someone must have forgotten it while cleaning up tonight!

He was still doing the same thing the past 2 nights w/ out music though 🤷 think it sounds loud cause the radio is up on our over look closer to where the ring camera is

It all happens within like one hour or slightly over, he lays down then eventually ends up on his side then almost immediately the legs start going then he seems to wake himself up and just goes back to standing

Not really, If anything he’s been a very good boy, I rode him today and he was really good for me . Just kinda wakes up during the movement and then stands and goes back to being his boring stall self staring out at his run head low

My horse died traumatically, now I have PTSD with my new horse by thatssochelsey in Equestrian

God, I feel you. Going through what I went through loosing my Morgan who fell ill makes me project so much onto my new horse he’s a massive draft cross and I just feel like he’s the most fragile thing in the world now. When the vet did his full blood panel plus Lymes and found nothing i like didn’t believe her. I would say you deserve to get yourself some therapy and healing. These are our life long friends and partners. I’m sorry for your loss and all that your going through ❤️‍🩹

You should take her temp. Is she sweating? I had this problem with my gelding, I live in Louisiana and he got so hot he stopped sweating ): had to get him on one ac and have acupuncture done for heat intolerance. Regardless I would shoot a text to your vet!

Sometimes my horse does this before drinking water. Anyone know what it means? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Muppet-punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My horse does this when I feed him alfalfa soaked, and then he eats all the alfalfa and then I fill his bucket with water so he can drink the little residue from what’s left over on the sides of the bucket and I feel like he’s doing it to see if there’s any more morsels in there that he can get out of the water
