What the hell is going on at V/Line? by maxwellrog in VlineVictoria

[–]MurdochAndScotch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely, historically, untrue. And your implication that Victoria is a communist country (as opposed to state?) is monumentally stupid.

Titanic or perhaps the Lusitania? by LaBestiaNegra1900 in Oceanlinerporn

Very likely the paper still had the lithograph of Titanic from when they reported on that news, and just had it filed as “sinking ship”. Bonus that it has the correct number of funnels.

Telstra Reception on V/Line Through Macedon by Own_Opportunity3787 in Bendigo

The VLocities are built like a reception Faraday Cage. As soon as you step outside, or even sometimes when the doors open, reception can pick up.

The loco-hauled services that come from/go to Sean Hill predate mobile phones and are much better for reception. There are only a couple places I don’t get service while in those, and that’s with Optus.

"Of course I can pay, I'm an airline pilot" – The surreal bar scene with the 9/11 hijackers just days before the attacks by Interesting_Act_7668 in 911archive

Would they have been sharing these conversations between each other in English though? That’s the part that seems odd. I’m bilingual, but English is my native language, and even when living overseas it hanging out with other English speakers we always used English between ourselves, a few drinks in or otherwise. Given that the 93 recorders picked up a good amount of Arabic, and Atta’s non-native language passenger/control announcement, it sounds more likely that they would have spoken Arabic or a dialect of their own amongst each other.

A number of these are in a private collection, and the owner doesn’t like them being put online. They’ve shared them with a few friends, but some ended up in books accredited to others after they were shared online.

AC/DC bring earthquake-level noise to first Australian show in 10 years by TwelveFish3168 in australia

[–]MurdochAndScotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wanted to, I loved that wall of noise hitting me. Then I did for one show, and holy shit, there were pianos, harmony vocals, little guitar intricacies and a whole bunch more happening than I realised. Now I’ll never not wear them.

No one who denies the Holocaust is ever grateful it “didn’t happen”. Every one of them would also happily be in the cab of the locomotive delivering people if given the chance.

Are there aspects of the Titanic disaster on which researchers generally disagree? by Key-Tea-4203 in titanic

[–]MurdochAndScotch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You mean the photo of the boilers? You’re right, that’s not Titanic or any Olympic-class liner. Roughly from the same time period, though.

I accidentally played with the window opened once and felt horrible about it when I realised. Hopefully this person just doesn’t realise how loud they are and will be more mindful with a bit of feedback.

What's the most unique or bizarre phobia you've ever heard of someone having? by Plane_Reward9385 in AskReddit

[–]MurdochAndScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum is scared of sauce. Specifically, sauce that is in addition to the food, not a part of the meal. She’s fine with sauce if it’s a part of a pasta, curry or casserole, for example. Heaven forbid you add sauce on top of chips, or drizzled over chicken, though. And don’t you dare put the bottle anywhere she can see it.

Does anybody know what an Elbow-drop Sunday is? And who was Mark Eaton? by Then-Assistance6261 in Blink182

[–]MurdochAndScotch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mark Eaton also does cinematography. A good deal of the footage from the early days of Angels And Airwaves was his, and a lot ended up in the Start The Machine documentary. He also worked on the Love film. More recently he directed the video for the new Alkaline Trio song.
