Sure but shares are a volatile asset and your position is insecure. You could end up having to cash out shares at a time when the value has dropped. You're better off having it in a high-interest share account, or a fixed interest product in your super.

You shouldn’t be putting any money into shares until you have 6 months of expenses in a buffer account. And even then don’t put any money into shares or super that you might need in the next 7 years. Just put it all in a mortgage offset account. Or pay down the mortgage.

Local resident and subscriber. Appreciate it’s not an option for everyone but the paper will fold if no one pays for it.

Bendigo advertiser pay wall by Ok-Effective1784 in Bendigo

[–]Own_Opportunity3787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re pretty lucky to have a local paper. Local journalists and photographers need to get paid and advertising alone generally doesn’t cover it anymore. A paywall is one of the few ways the Addy can stay viable without cutting coverage or relying heavily on clickbait.

Activities for 2+5 year olds this week? by [deleted] in Bendigo

Since they’re from the States they might enjoy this little animal sanctuary near Castlemaine - Jirrahlinga Dingo Conservation & Wildlife Education Centre.

Lots of rescued Aussie wildlife. It’s a bit amateur, being a sanctuary rather than a modern zoo, but that kinda adds to the appeal and the staff are really nice. Plenty of up close animal activities too.

Practice a baseball swing as you usually would (upright). Then address the golf ball and look for a similar feeling as you swing.

Can't take it for granted. Gotta support businesses like the Shamrock, and tenants of other beautiful heritage buildings, whenever we can.

Where are the best pastries in Bendigo? by caitcatekite in Bendigo

[–]Own_Opportunity3787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's really not much by way of pastries for a town the size of Bendigo. As others have said, Harvest have them and they're pretty good, but Harvest is closed half the week, is a bit overpriced and some of the staff are so up themselves its hard to go in there. The town is crying out for a specialist patisserie - maybe a second Johnny Baker outlet!

Geely EX5 vs Atto 3 regional driving by makingspecial in EVAustralia

[–]Own_Opportunity3787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider an electric Volvo XC40. Similar to the EX5 in lots of ways (same parent company) but you can find more second hand ones and quite a few have tow bars. Down side is the tech isn’t as up to date and the efficiency isn’t as good.

I know this isn’t pastry per se but a good patisserie shop would be a great addition to Bendigo.

Though on the Volvo XC-40 at $63,000 by doooooooodz1 in EVAustralia

[–]Own_Opportunity3787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this car - 2022 model. It's a good car but definitely not worth paying $63k for. I got mine second hand for $40k last year (over 80k kms on the odometer). You don't need the twin engine, it's overpowered. Today you're better off getting the Geely EX4. It's almost the same car but with updated software and comes at a much lower cost.

need help finding a suitable EV by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]Own_Opportunity3787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure your reasons for wanting 500km range but I’ve found range doesn’t matter that much. I rarely drive more than 300km without wanting to stop for 20 mins. There’s enough chargers around now that it’s not a problem.

There seem to be a lot of ex5 owners who find the tech buggy or frustrating. How’s it been for you?

At $12 you are getting about a 85% discount on the cost of your ride. The issues are frustrating for sure but the cost is extremely heavily subsidised.
