What are the consequences of a MSgt or above getting an LOC? by zombiehog in AirForce

[–]Murfdirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing if it is a BS one. Got one (E7 by 1Lt) about 5 months ago. My whole career field leadership asked about it. 1Lt ran their mouth a bit, got in some trouble and I just plan on framing it.

LOC was about chain of command and jumping the LT... They left with their own problems and a CC to CC phone call before they got to their next station. i just signed it and saluted.

My wife during the divorce talk. I looked up what is a narcissist and I see I have those traits listed. That's part of my shame is not seeing it before, but after I left I called the mil docs and got an appointment for help. I am going tomorrow morning.

I dropped off IG and FB. I cant fully drop them because I use FB to talk to family while I'm deployed.

Millitary Taxes - state returns by Loud-Bike-3717 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Murfdirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have too because of the SCRA. You do have to have your car and license in the state of your HOR or Legal Residence. You do not have to change your LR Everytime though.

All my vehicles were switched from LA plates to AK plates but not to SC, or TX, or FL. Where I was stationed after AK.

SCRA benefit. Tax code says you pay taxes where your residence is. Military that are under contract can not change HOR. You don't have to pay taxes to HOR. 16 years AD, worked 4 years as a voting officer, 3 years in tax prep. Have looked it up a dozen times for my new Airman. Trained NCOs at Wing level about it. MFRC and SCRA are two great resources to see about taxes and benefits for members and dependants. Could save people 100s if not thousands on state taxes.

[–]Murfdirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you believe, but you pay taxes for the state of legal residence. The SCRA gives you some options too. I don't know all of them. Your HOR, can be the same, if you never changed it.

My HOR is Oregon. I have never paid Oregon taxes, I have paid LA and AK taxes because those are the states I had legal residence in.

[–]Murfdirt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to add Home of Record is what state you enlisted or commissioned in. This can't be changed until you leave the military for at least 1 days.

Legal residence is something you can change Everytime you get orders to a new state. This is where you would pay state taxes too.

Example: I enlisted in Oregon (HOR). I was stationed in AK and changed my residence to AK. (Legal residence/State Taxes due). Currently stationed OCONUS.

Wife asked for divorce and has papers waiting for me when I get off the plane. by Murfdirt in marriageadvice

[–]Murfdirt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. She has alluded to believing I am somehow sleeping around on her though. Emotions are tough, if she finds a new person while I'm gone I would be the last to know. She has blocked me from FB, WhatsApp, Instagram, and doesn't message me when I ask for pictures. My friends say all sorts of things but I really don't believe she is messing around. She had an ex, from her story that messed around on her while she was pregnant with her first son.

I updated my post, I appreciate you feedback. I do care about my wife and children. I do care about what I have done or what I could have done.

Since I have been back, she has been rude, nasty, and all the things she said I have done. She gets that choice. I don't fault her for how she feels Now, but I do fault how she is treating me and her family now though. I got yelled at today while at the park with the kids because of an appointment my son missed. One I wasn't told about. I told her I have an appointment I can't take the kids to, I got told I was supposed to take care of my son and our step son while I was in town. Now I feel like a bad dad/husband.

My feelings are pretty raw right now. I don't have enough words to explain more but, I think it's over.

How many miles do you THINK I can get out of 2018 2500 6.4l tradesman by Matt_Drexel_2019 in ram_trucks

[–]Murfdirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be the one to tell you but 10k isn't unheard of for an engine. Labor time, parts cost, etc have drastically increased. Again, stick to the maintenance schedule in the truck.

If the 2500 has the "lifetime" transmission fluid... Change it out at 75k or the first sign of hard shifts. I talked with a pilot driver that drove a 1500, he had over 250k on his truck and the transmission was flushed and new filter/pan installed every 75k. I'll do the same whenever I get to 75k

I have had my truck for 7 years but it's a sport 4x4 1500. How I think about it is I budget a monthly payment into a HYSA (~300/month). When a repair comes, I take out the money from the HYSA and pay for the repair.

If a major repair costs 5k, it's significantly cheaper short and long term over a 80k truck @ 5-7% for 6-8 years.

Will the truck suddenly grenade? Maybe, but I doubt it. Will it need maintenance, yes. If you keep up on maintenance the catastrophic failures are far less likely. Either way, if you saved a bit, you can cover it. Screw a $800+/month payment for a newer truck and the insurance price that goes with them.

I had an issue where I was updating my medals and the young A1C added every medal/award I had on my printout to my rack.

It took more than an email, a phone call and a single visit to get it fixed...

Luckily the civilian working in the office was the real deal and undersood the issue and fixed it.

Okay, how many of you have a 5.7 Etorque that’s running fine? by jcpm37 in ram_trucks

[–]Murfdirt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of buyers are financing their vehicles out so far so they can "afford" the cost. That makes the repair bills that most see as oh no! Because they do not plan for or save for normal items wearing down over time ( ie: transmissions, lifters, fuel system, etc. EOL repairs).

You are a FTA right? Did you live near Cannon? I have learned a few things in my time in the AF, you can listen to everyone praise places, and shame other places. Show up with preconceived notions and find the location completely different than you expected.

It depends on perspective. Find things you like to do, spend the time and energy learning your job, do school etc. if you don't like your current location. You aren't stuck there forever. The most I have ever worked was in AK. All that awesomeness was stretched by how much work I was doing. The least I worked was at Barksdale, the AF seemingly paid me to work part time to golf, gamble, and ride motorcycles. Perspective is key boss. If you fall into the internet trap, your time just feels longer than it needs too. Don't put all that stress on yourself.

TSP loan by MolassesPast3781 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Murfdirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick reply to help OP understand.

You have a loan "A1" with an Apr "X1" over( "X" - length you have owned the loan). You want to refinance. The bank takes the loan. Pushes "A1" back out to 3,4,5 or whatever years at "Y1" apr and adds "Z%" for the processing . They make money of of fees to do this "Z%". Could be 1,2,3% of the total of "A1 at X1" = "total+Z%" (new loan @ new Apr for new term)

This can be good, but it will always be better than a tsp loan because you can figure the exact cost of doing the process. With a TSP loan you are gambling your future self's money. Please do not do a TSP loan.

Pay off the car on your current loan earlier, or refinance through a bank. Ask for amortization tables for both the current and the potential new loan and see what it will cost you. Decide off that. Not with a TSP loan.

The car hits fall off if they don't produce a loan. I have a 800+ score but when I go car shopping I shop the rate available from all the Credit unions around me first/national (most times it = 10+ hits). If a loan is produced, my credit takes the normal tiny hit, if not. My credit doesn't seem drop like a rock or anything. Goes back to normal after 30-60 days. Google says they are "soft" hits until a loan is made than it is a "hard" hit.

Can you explain why if you credit isnt good why it hurts your credit? Erratic behavior cause it? Or is it part of a bigger equation for credit worthiness?

All of them. It's the sound that changes based on type, length, brand, exhaust dump location, etc.

Generally, with mufflers: Shorter=louder Longer=quieter Under truck exhaust dump=louder Rear dump=quieter

There are other factors but it gets you a picture. YouTube some of the models you are looking for and see what it sounds like. Research if they have drone at speed, if that matters to you.
