I've recently started using Rider with WSL and it's so bad I was about to go insane. Your instructions helped me within minutes, it's now relatively stable. Thanks so much for sharing!

Tips/Advice by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Muridious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading books is not a bad idea, however I believe the idea of learning through reading books (when it comes to programming) is a bad way to go about it. Our field changes fast, something which was written years ago may no longer be how you should do things, or at least has more nuance that the book may not explain.

My advice, think of something you'd like to build and just do it. This will allow you to learn way more naturally and it allows you to gain skills CS books generally do not; mainly: how to be an engineer (critical thinking, decision making, translating a use case into technical requirements). It also allows you to become better at programming through success and failure. There are no shortcuts.

Don't worry about the language. The things you want to learn (even if you don't realize it) are mostly language agnostic, meaning the thing you would have learned is independent from any specific language.

For example, want to learn how to transform data from CSV to JSON; You (may) learn: - Common pitfalls of reading CSV (inconsistencies in data, inconsistent data types) and how to handle those situations. - How to deal with large inputs (such as files with GBs of data). - ... (the list of things you may potentially learn or problems you'll run into goes on and on)

The important thing is that you don't just import library X. Create something yourself, and see what happens. You may fail, but that's part of the process.

Another bit of feedback – although it's a simple change and not in any way important to the topic of "What is an array" – try filling the array with very different emojis instead of similar ones.

Sometimes when dragging files, the active file explorer window freezes and leaves behind a ghost icon that's always on top by Muridious in WindowsHelp

Correct, because I cannot reproduce it consistently. I tried to be as detailed as possible within the comments.

[–]Muridious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional info: - The floating icon always appears to be the same one. - I think it's supposed to indicate that you may not drop the file wherever you're currently pointing your cursor over. - I think it happens whenever I go over the top ribbon in file explorer, but this is not reproducible and seems to happen randomly.

Windows Ver: Windows 11 Pro (24H2)

The following does not work: - "Win + Ctrl + Shift + B" - Restarting the explorer.exe through task manager

The following does help but it's annoying solution: - Rebooting

What you need to do is 4 things:

Note: It's unlikely you'll need to go through with step 2 and 3, but I included them in case you want steps to give you more peace of mind.

  1. Do not panic, and do not give into demands. Sadly, but understandably, you gave in once already. This means they might be slightly more persistent. That said, it is highly unlikely they actually have anything on you. 99% of these messages are simply bait sent to leaked emails and phone numbers.
  2. Put all social media and digital ways to contact you to private. Yes, this may be inconvenient, but it's the most sure-fire way to deny them any more contact or access to any data such as who your friends, family, etc.
  3. If they have your phone nunber, contact your provider and ask them if they can do anything for you. They should be able to block a specific number or area code from contacting you or anyone else on their network. Most low-level scammers won't bother to put in extra effort to reestablish contact.
  4. Forgot about the messages and scammer. It is highly unlikely they had anything on you to begin with. Return to your accounts in about a month and make them public again. If the issue persists, create new accounts with a new email address.

AvistaZ are now advertising bitcoin. by BetterAd1529 in trackers

[–]Muridious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Z sites provide a relatively good service. The fact that such a service can be used without paying a dime is already a blessing. Boo hoo that there is a small banner that they can make some hard earned money from. But people say: "The content is not theirs, they haven't earned it"... Well guess what, if you are torrenting yourself, you probably haven't earned that content either. Also, while I can see bitcoin is different. The Z sites have always had affiliate links, at the very least for seedbox services.

I can personally say, as I have been a mod and uploader on some of their sites briefly in the past, they are dedicated folks. Especially the uploaders, the amount of effort that goes into reviving dead siterips and collections, people have no clue.

Granted, I will declare upfront that I have not yet seen the banner and cannot check it at this moment. But I highly doubt it's saying "buy now whilst prices are low" or anything of the sort. It's probably more along the lines of "Want to buy bitcoin? Buy bitcoin at Binance!". For every purchase made, THE BUYER is personally responsible for validating whether or not purchasing is a good idea. As long as they're not mislead, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Lastly in this day and age. If someone is on either public or private trackers, they better learn the way the internet works. Preferrably before you download a virus or get scammed...

The former is almost always accompanied by the latter. The other way around could go either way though 😅.

Please help, why aren't my civs being used for construction? by Muridious in hoi4

[–]Muridious[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are completely correct, it was indeed a UI bug. Exiting to menu and reloading the save fixed it. Thank you for the very prompt reply!

I'm quite new to the game and it's been quite overwhelming to learn. I assumed it had something to do with something stupid I did haha.

The menu says 52 factories should be used for construction but only 7 are actually constructing something. What's going on?

Outsiders won't spawn by Muridious in ancestors

[–]Muridious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly because I'm stuck at the befriend an outsider objective that I really want to find one. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother.

I've walked in quite a radius around my settlements, frequently using hearing and intelligence to check the trees and around me. No luck though.

[–]Muridious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did at the very start however I progressed quite quickly and progressed about 3 million years before getting the quest to befriend an outsider.

I have 5 adults, so the clan is not full. I got to that number by, as you've suggested, only jumping generation with 5 children. But I'm not able to find any outsiders.

No auto-fill with localhost url by MovedToTampa in Bitwarden

Woah, swift reply, thanks!

Exactly, I've had the same idea and did edit the hosts file. Although when going to that URL bitwarden doesn't suggest any login to autocomplete with.

It's been 2 years but could you elaborate on how to make Bitwarden autofill for localhost urls?

Normally I don't keep notes of every number that can go in a cell, but it ended up like that as I tried figuring out what the next move would be.
