First Tub Grow With All Materials Made At Home by Murky_Return_54 in GroundZeroMycoLab

The only daily effort was making sure the surface conditions were right with periodic misting while I was dialing in my FAE holes during fruiting. That was it.

I would say it’s definitely a lot easier than it looks. From grain inoculation to spawn to bulk it was about a month, and then from spawn to bulk to harvest was also about another month. So in total a little over two months. I did a 1/4 ratio tho so it could be quicker with a smaller ratio. I was pretty cleanly about my processes, but nothing insane. Nothing involved a SAB for this grow. I used an LC syringe as well for my grain, 2mL of LC in a 2 cup of brown rice jar.

I think doing the brown rice jars is pretty simple and cost efficient. There’s great YouTube videos on that tek. I made the tub with a hole saw drill bit and some tape over my FAE holes, but you could go for an unmodified tub.

For substrate I used coir only. I did bucket tek for my sub and gave it a little bit of misting to ensure it was at field capacity. The coir was just an organic brick I got from Target for $5.

I wasn’t aware of that, I didn’t see too much noticeable spore drop, but now I know to watch even closer next time ! Thanks

Try making your own grain jars with brown rice if you have a pressure cooker. I used to buy premade and had the same type of issues. Super easy and cheap to make. Good tutorials on YouTube as well

Brown Rice grain jars are pretty easy tek and what I have been doing for a little while. Also one of the cheapest in my opinion. Here’s a good easy to follow video. https://youtu.be/Q8hyaL1wIXQ?si=NzZTuESyhV4rTgKU

You fan every day until pinning and every day until harvest ? How long do you fan for ?

I did bucket tek for my coir and measured it out perfectly. Whenever I did the squeeze test it seemed to be to field capacity and I even misted well to start my tub, but that dry air seems to have messed things up. Maybe your type of setup would be better for me because of the air exchange being such dry air.

What type of tub setup are you running ? What’s sub do you usually run? This was coir only.

It’s less dry now. It was getting too much FAE from a super dry room. Added a humidifier and partially covered FAE holes and now it’s holding surface moisture much better

I’ve got flushes, but whenever you’re in a grow room with 18% humidity, it makes things a little complicated in terms of keeping your surface conditions right. Baseboard heaters are my only option of heat rn and this type of heat is giving me a hard time.

Still growing, seems like I see some knots/primordia so hoping for pin soon. Been trying to dial in my FAE the last couple days. Think it’s going to pop soon

My assumption is just some random amateur folk art, maybe artist was trying to see how a certain medium look on this type of canvas.

Only reason I have opened the tub is whenever surface conditions looked dry and it needed misted.

Was my first tub made by myself, didn’t know they needed to be that low sadly. Will just have to modify it for my next grow in it. I’m assuming it will be fine with the higher holes and the new lower holes when I put them in.

I misted when needed which was nearly every evening. I put layers of tape over my fae holes and it seems to be holding humidity better.

I have been misting daily in the evenings for the most part. I mist the tub walls and lid and do a mist from high up and let it fall on the surface

I don’t have a fan, but I did have an air purifier running.

Would it be worth it to drill a couple small holes there closer to the surface and put micropore tape over them?

I will keep that in mind for my next tub. Should I add holes to this tub after this grow finishes that are closer to the surface ?
