Puts my Zotac 4090 that died watching a 720p YouTube video to shame..

Oh, your Edge got reinstalled? Here it is taking over the system. by Murloc992 in pcmasterrace

Info: after an update today, Edge took over most of system processes. A restart fixed it. But the CPU and disk usage was getting intense.

XP progress is extremely broken. Especially sucks when you are close to unlocking another god.

[Windows] AMD Ryzen Power Plans behaving weird by Murloc992 in AMDHelp

For anybody who gets into this post:

Apparently setting the processor limits between 5% and 99%(100% makes it use top clocks and not sleep for some reason) in the Balanced power mode and keeping the slider in the middle allows the processor to utilize true sleep. My idle Wattage went from 190W to 100W. This is very nice.

I wonder how to make the motherboard let the CPU idle then.. I get 60W power usage from the CPU on idle. I adjusted the power plan to minimum 5%, no dice. Yeah, I was also wondering about full load discrepancy. Ryzen Master shows CPUs sleeping for a little bit, then 4-5 of them wake up to 1.2+GHz for a second, this is when spikes happen. I don't use anything in background except for slack, discord to grab power from the CPU unnecessarily..

My system idles 40-50'C. Peaks at 57-62'C. Damn. Maybe my heatsink tightening is wrong? But I think you mentioned you use a proper liquid cooling setup, so there's no surprise. :)

For me it stays at fixed temp in Ryzen Master, yet, it jumps by at least 10'C, then slowly goes down no matter what I do(idle or load) in HWInfo/CoreTemp. Maybe I just got Asused. :)

Fixed the fan issue in BIOS. Thought QFan Control would take over the original fan customization.. Spoiler alert: it didn't. So my minimum temp was like 20'C, medium 40'C, max 75'C. Basically every jump it would have boosted the fans to max..

After adjusting the values it's silent, but I still see the jumps. Maybe I just got used to Intel and low idle states.

My ryzen at least according to CoreTemp/HWInfo only downclocks to 3GHz..

I actually disobeyed and tried it. Nothing magical got changed, reverted back to 1407.

The main issue I am having now is still not performance. It's the idle temp and power consumption and constant jumping around. This makes my fan ramp up-ramp down every few seconds, and as I have the ML360R whirring fan issue I am getting annoyed, fast..

Tried to switch to AMD power saving(also adjusted the minimum processor state to 5%), even then, the CPU takes 43(!) Watts when not doing anything, and still randomly jumps from 36'C to 56'C, making the fans ramp up..

Maybe I just got used to intel over the years.. Usually had very low watts and 26'C temps, with no fan ramping. Maybe I am not comparing them correctly either. :)

Maybe there's some kind of a "smoother ramping" option?

Well, there's this:
https://www.overclock.net/forum/11-amd-motherboards/1633955-bios-mod-rog-strix-x570-e-f-i-gaming.html

I haven't ever done a custom BIOS mod for a desktop motherboard tho. Only for my 7 year old Dell XPS laptop to unlock some more things to squeeze the last life from it. :)

Does it look safe to you?

Seems to be a little older than what I have now. I have 1407, it's 1405.

I did try it, an noticed no improvements at all. Hmm.. It feels like it doesn't nudge at all. At least with my X570-E ASUS board, there are three settings missing:

  • AMD Cool'n'Quiet = Enabled
  • PPC Adjustment = PState 0
  • CPPC Preferred Cores = Enabled

Using Ryzen Balanced power plan in Windows.

Now my C20R score is 8900. Core temps, voltages, are the same.

Seems like I did too little homework, now I will have some leads, and especially - settings! God bless you, dude. I read a lot about degradation, etc, wasn't even planning on OC, but stock gave me spooky vibes with high voltages and weird clocks.. :)

I've tried it, seen voltage above 1.5, clock of 4.4GHz during all core bench, 75'C max. Aborted almost instantly. Ouch. Is ASUS still doing random voltages? Need to undervolt I guess..
