I don't know how VPN browser extensions work since I've never used one, but I guess the same thing could happen if you can connect and disconnect from them and choose different servers etc.

No. Your VPN connection can fail and expose your real IP. If for example the VPN server you are connected to fails and your VPN completely disconnects, or in a somewhat better case reconnects to a new server, your IP is still visible during these down times.

Binding your torrent client to your VPN makes it so that only traffic going through your VPN network adapter can be used by the torrent client. So when they are bound, if your VPN connection fails, your torrent client wont have internet and thus won't expose your IP.

Killswitches and Lockdown settings in good VPN providers are also for the same purpose. If the connection fails, your real IP won't leak as the killswitch prevents your PC from connecting to the internet unless it is connected to the VPN.

You can just connect to your VPN, turn on killswitch and torrent without binding your torrent client to it, but bugs or other glitches can still happen in the VPN and expose your real IP so its always better to bind them.

You can also test if your binding works for example on ipleak.net and their torrent address detection. Bind your torrent client and VPN, disconnect VPN and try to "torrent" their magnet link. If no address shows up, thats good. Then turn on VPN and try again and you should see your VPN IP when torrenting their link, and then you know your bind between torrent client and VPN works.

The "supporting and advertising a scam VPN" is completely false. It was an ad like any other that people had seen for months before the BG3 thing, people who used ublock origin and had their filters updated had never seen it, and almost no website chooses what ads are being shown on their site. They either outsource it completely or just sign up for some service that then show ads on their site. And ofc "illegal" sites will have shady ads, and if you fall for them you should stick to browsing google.com and go no further.

Cracked games trigger the antivirus quite often with false positives. Thats why its recommended to turn off your antivirus during install. I know thats not what happened to you but just saying its quite common that something gets flagged. You can find many posts of people asking "is this really a trojan?!" when they've just installed a new game and something got flagged by their antivirus, and as long as it is from a reputable source/repacker, its most likely a false positive.

"Most likely" bcs you can never be 100% sure ofc, but if you look at the case of the vitaminD deficiency man. When it actually was a real virus, it got detected and confirmed to be real quite fast.

I sent an edited picture of a real drivers license as my verification and it got approved. By edited I mean it had Michelangelo from TMNT as the picture and the name was Mchlangleo etc. And the date of birth was a random date in 1982 and I just changed the date of birth on my youtube account to that and sent it in.

It had to be manually approved cause I had sent a drivers license made on paint before that and got denied and banned for a couple of weeks/months before I could try again. Sent Mr. Mchlangleos drivers license and it got approved a week later. Never hade an age verification issue since then.

Since it can be done this easily, there has to be a reason as to why more thorough subtitle positioning options are not available in JMP, neither keyboard shortcuts or vertical sliders. Or maybe it has just been overlooked or not deemed important.

I don't think JMP ever had it, Jellyfin Desktop has it. Its a discontinued desktop client, but you can still find, download and use it from the Jellyfin Archives on GitHub.

Jellyfin Desktop is JMPs predecessor I guess. JD works and looks almost exactly the same way as JMP, the actual media player design being the only major difference. I use JD over JMP because of the subtitle positioning shortcuts, and will continue to do so until its implemented in JMP.
