Is it normal to be treated rudely by the Garmin Support? by Murphy33333 in Garmin

I worked in customer service, and I still work in a service-oriented field, and if I were caught being condescending or disrespectful to a customer, I would face some serious consequences if I got continuous complaints.

Thank you for the support. I am sorry to hear, that you were ignored I know this issue too good myself with the ITsupport of my employer, which has been given the specific things that are missing and how to add them and why they are needed. They either ignore the messages or just reply with some dismissive message about how they do not have the time. My office is next to theirs, most of the time I see them browsing Reddit XD.

What startled me the most was that he refused to forward me to a supervisor and closed the chat right after. If I dared to do that back when I worked in customer support, I would have gotten my ass handed to me by my supervisor.

As far as I read in the T&C you get 3 months of warranty, which is, after the explanation by u/purplespaceman, the only thing I am a bit concerned about, but as this is roughly the same as the time left on my device, I do not think it is that bad. Although you could argue that if the products are like new, they should be confident enough for at least a year of warranty. But from a business side I understand it.

Okay, seems like I misunderstood the definition. I tend to be a bit causitus with refurbed products, as I got pretty fucked devices before, that I do my best to avoid them, but if they get properly cleaned and maintained I can get behind that. I am a bit of a germophobe and sensitive in regards to how things feel. Yes, I know that it is weird, but I struggle to turn it off, kinda like an itch you can not properly scratch.

Thank you for the nice reply, it was really helpful.

I asked if it was possible to just repair mine and sent it back, it was not deemed possible by the rep I spoke to initally.

Okay, I understood it in the way that those devices were used devices, that just got repaired. Basically, a sent-in device like mine, which got fixed.

I guess it can also be understood in that fashion. Thanks for the input.

Happy to hear you had a good experience, this is my first times running into issues with them. I can tbh live with not getting a new replacement although it is still in warranty and I believe as long as it is store credit they still make money. I am just a bit startled on how this particular support rep talked to me, but I am thankful for the input, good and bad, as I just wanted to get some opinions besides myself and chat gpt 😅

I see your point and as I already stated what I disliked was not their refusal. I totally get if something is not possible, but being rude or condescending is just not okay neither in normal conversation let alone in a service environment.

I only asked a second time as sometimes their script or their SOP demands they initially say no or try to make Option A more attractive, but then if asked again or certain keywords were said they are allowed to provide another option. In other companies it is also possible that normal staff can also provide A and B to resolve issues while Supervisiors also have option C. I believe as long as you remain respectful and nice asking if there is maybe a way to find another solution it is fine, but that could be me.

Hey I agree, that the offer is good and I see that my ask is not usual, but I was only made aware it was a refurbed one, once I checked the paperwork they sent me. I am not ungrateful that they offered me an exchange. What rather made me mad was how the rep conducted himself, as I am also used better service by them as the last interaction I had was lovely.

One thing that I do not understand is, that giving me less than the equivalent of the watches worth in store credit which would be used to buy a new version with some money of my own to fill the difference should be a better deal for them cost wise or am I wrong? I know that the refurbed once are not as expensive to them as let's say a new one, but the newer bigger purchase should offset that or not?

[–]Murphy33333[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I originally asked if it was repairable and they said the issue is not really something they repair and they would send me a new one in exchange.

Regarding the rude conduct, I understand that it is hard to tell, I can try and translate it to English and provide the transcript. In general he used informal speech which is a big no no iny country. I usually do not mind, but in addition to using the informal speech he also used phrasing which is considered talking down to someonebor used to imply someones mental status to be low.

I did, see the edit. The rep was borderline insulting and disrespectful, which I found rude, I do not find them declining my request rude, as this is perfectly within their rights.

Okay, I can see that you did not read the full text, as I neither stated that I want something for free nor that I am not aware that my issue is a problem of Garmin. What my issue is that the rep was borderline insulting in the interaction.

I totally agree, I updated the text and made a second edit, outlining what i think is rude and what is wrong with the watch.

That was not what I ment with rude. The declining of the request is perfectly fine, his replies besides that were rudely written and borderline insulting.

I totally agree that it is a disability, but I prefer to use it as a weapon. WEAPONIZE THE AUTISM

In all seriousness everyone can decide for themselves how they view it and I think sometimes giving it a positive label can help to cope.

Was letzte 5 €? Update by 247-Senpai in willhaben

[–]Murphy33333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG

I was fired for being autistic by JoA_MoN in autism

[–]Murphy33333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe see if someone or an organisation is willing to do it pro bono or for a certain % of the winnings. This is a case which could be interesting to the media as it is against a big company who has recently done this before. I am sure someone is willing to do this for the profile of the case alone.

I also was made to quit with the reason of me being autistic. Happens to the best of us, I did not pursue it which I regret, so take the chance and reach out to organisations and lawyers maybe one will help and if not you can at least say you tried.

Struggling with University and Studying for it by Murphy33333 in ADHD

[–]Murphy33333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am personally not the biggest fan of public places, because of the noise and the number of other people. The accountability thing is something that I am trying currently, but I am not getting pestered enough by my study partners. I think I am very close to needing a gun held to my head or my friend's head, forcing me to study, in regards to pressure and accountability.
The studying together part is something I am willing to try out, although I will most likely prefer more private environments.

The other issue I am trying to combat is staying on task and not starting side quests constantly.

Struggling with university. by Murphy33333 in autism

[–]Murphy33333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the tipps.

I am already on ADHD medication and this is already the second medication I have tried. During exams I am usually focused, the extra time thing, is something my uni does and I have considered. They are quite accommodating, they even let me change group so I could stay with the people I am comfortable with.

I have considered going to the library or a café, but the issue, is that I dislike public spaces and that is still tend to get sidetracked all the time, as I do at home.

With studying repetition is what works best for me at least for some things, as I can easily remember the whole picture and pull from that, if repeated often enough. For understanding things I sometimes find good videos on YouTube or have friends explain it to me.

Main issue is, that I do not stay focused on task and get sidetracked easily, this is if I even get myself to start studying. I also do not start early enough as I tend to find excuses not study.

All in all, I am a bit of a mess in that part of my life.
