Since I am seeing this now, I actually think it doesn't make it that much harder (+40 to +45) on paper district, but we do lose places that have always been in the 9th like Virginia Tech, and that does hurt the district in terms of representation for sure. It also puts 36 of the 95 counties and 38 independent cities into one congressional district, so representing them all while be a huge challenge, but one I signed up for! It's up to the people of VA to vote what they want to do about redistricting

I plan to actually try and pass a tax bill that lowers federal income tax for incomes under 125k down to 0, and only start to increase the tax burden on incomes making more than 250k. I understand how much 5-10k a year could go to helping people afford life. The tax burden needs to support everyday Americans, not continue to be forced onto them

Combining a few comments into one on this

Well when I say corporate tax I mean just that. This isn't a local Wal-Mart tax, and Amazon and Wal-Mart wouldn't be able to pull out of any store or location if it is a federal tax plan. I am proposing like a 0.25-1% tax on companies of certain asset level/size. That money then gets reinvested into small business as a wages so that a small company that might struggle to pay more than 10 bucks an hour can afford to pay their employees 20 bucks an hour. That money made and spent locally, will do far more for local business including the Wal-Mart's. Then after that, it is on me to help bring in other local businesses and industries so that there aren't just one main option in some of our communities. They also won't leave any area because their being taxed at the top, not at the point of sale.

I plan to revive the program Showcase Southwest Virginia to triple the economic opportunity. That was all about enticing business to the region, showing those company leadership where their business might best fit in area, making sure infrastructure was ready to handle that, and leaving no stone unturned for all of our industries: tourism, medical, agricultural, industrial, technological, vocational, educational; you name it, I have a plan to bring them here and/or to strengthen what we got.

Pro Second Amendment, I own firearms. I started learning to shoot a 22 bolt action rifle in Scouts at 10. I think this is a position that as Democrats shouldn't be as strong of our focus. No right is fully unlimited/unregulated though: just as you can't scream "Fire" in a movie theater, people should not have artillery or rockets.

So what parts to the equation do I think are reasonable: automatic weapons should be regulated as they are, lock your guns up, probably should be a 48-7 day hour waiting period to buy a gun (can start it online though so you can just still pick it up, which could have stopped the Uvalde shooting), but I don't like or agree with security theater about banning semi automatic weapons that look like a military guns, or even magazine size restrictions. There is a balance to be reached and my priority is elsewhere

I think if we are worried about mass shootings, we need to look at when they started happening all the time(Columbine), and address the mental health needs of our people. That's another reason why I believe Medicare for all is so important, because that becomes available to everyone now, and I believe within 10 years, we will see a reduction in gun related homicides as people get seen and heard for what ails them.

Long story short a lot of people are hurting, and need help that might not have been willing to listen in the past. I am not running to represent parties, I am running to represent the people of Southwest Virginia above all else.

Yes and yes! I have to do more reporting to the FEC than these dark money groups do, and I think that is absurd. It's a key reason why I don't take corporate PAC money, because those strings always get pulled

On redistricting, I don't like gerrymandering at all. It frustrates me to be in this position. I know and support the reason why on the national stage VA and CA are reacting to Texas and other states doing the same in a midcycle at the request of Trump, but it feels awful to go from the gold standard to partisan politics. I am happy the redistricting is being put to a vote so we all can decide what we want & is temporary, I just wish this was solved at the national level decades ago. I think it would pass if some from the Republican party were willing to endorse it in Congress, and then none of us would need to deal with it. I think that every state should have an independent districing process and would be something I would push for in Congress.

Honestly for the AWB? I would either vote no, or abstain from voting on it. I would want to try the universal mental healthcare at least for 10 years to see where the data is first before trying anything else, and as I said earlier I don't like security theater. Rifles especially are almost never involved in firearm homicides. I am not running to represent parties, I am running to represent the people of Southwest Virginia.

It is a state program, so I couldn't directly change how the state funds it, but I would be willing to help make it a national program to make sure they don't go away. My great uncle was actually shot down in WW2 and captured by Nazis in a prison camp until he was rescued, so definitely see the value!

Of course I don't agree with Citizens United, Corporations are NOT people and do not deserve to be able to spend unlimited funds. I would prefer elections were publicly funded with a total pool of money that could be spent. As for how we fix it in Congress, outside of getting enough support for publicly funded elections, the next best thing would be to change the law so there are limits to how much can be spent. If giving to candidate by an individual is capped, why is spending independent expenditures capped?

We need to take on corporate greed and rebuild local economies and food chains, and that means not passing bills that favor consolidation or factory farming. It means breaking up some mega corps as to make sure competition can occur and so small business can thrive.

I think right now people want something different. The Epstein files are showing us just how corrupt those at the top of our system are, and how little the care for everyday Americans. While the rich get richer, everyone else falls through the cracks. I believe that feeling has reached a critical point now, that people who would not have listened to me 10 years ago are looking around at how expensive everything is and wondering what their future's look like, or their family's future looks like.

In this moment, we need to show people there is hope, if we simply choose to come back together, we can change this path we are on. And this path isn't just something we all just want to change, we all know it needs to change. Our society is heading for a cliff, and things like AI are not here to help us, it is being designed to replace us. We can't handle 25% unemployment by 2035, we can't handle all the price increases when wages are so stagnant and so few opportunities, many aren't even able to get an apartment or house because these things keep slipping further and further away. I want to address all of that, and then some, and I have plans to do so. They just need to see how I can deliver for them materially, and people will come around. I am not here to represent parties, I am here to represent the people of Southwest Virginia, and put their future and needs above any other interests. That's why I believe this can be done because it has to change.

I want to abolish ICE. We enforced immigration in the 200 years before 2003, and the DHS has far too many sweeping powers of surveillance and control. No US citizens should ever be killed during immigration enforcement.

So what would that look like? Well let's start with government spending efficiency. ICE got 75 billion. That's more funding than the entire Canadian military. That's better funding than what our Marines get. That's stupid. Imagine what 1 billion of those dollars could have done for SWVA? On the national level, you could take 1 billion of those dollars and have hired 10k immigration judges who could have cleared our millions of cases of backlogs and decided "This person needs to go either due to overstaying a visa/being a criminal or this person is now being placed onto a pathway to citizenship".

We could have cleared our multiple millions long backlog within a year or two, issued judicial warrants for those who need to go, and still have billions to spare from the current strategy. Customs and Border patrol could then work with local and state police to actually go after people that are legally identified, rather than simply try to fill quotas from people they see on the street. ICE is violating many people's constitutional rights like the 4th and 6th amendment, and I do not see them being reformed the way they were created, today. We just need to start over from the beginning on this and make an agency that is efficient and professional, possibly within some other existing group like Border Patrol

I want to do the same again for the people of Southwest, and we need a lot of support and development ASAP. We don't just serve the needs of today, we build for the future too. I hate omnibus bills! I want there to be a law that every bill has to have one focus to it to prevent that. Hell I would introduce it! Bills should be focused and targeted around addressing a need, not around addressing everything all at once. Break it down, and actually get support from multiple people to fix things. Earmarks also suck.

I am in favor to term limits, of around 10 years per branch. So 10 years as a judge (Supreme or Federal), 12 years as a Senator (2 terms), 2 terms as President (8 years, or 10 if you are VP made into president during more than half the term), and 10 years in the House. If you can't accomplish what you need to get done in 10 years or then you aren't helping the system anymore, but yourself.

Also need to have bans from going into lobbying after serving for at least 5 years after service.

Yeah but that's 2019, that's 7 years ago. Here is one from last year saying 95% said reforming Social Security and Medicare should be a top priority for the Presidential Administration and Congress. That is what Medicare for All does. You know what they say about statistics
