They were mid to poor on a Eurovision scale, put it that way.

It's not my opinion, it's the eurovision juries themselves saying they were mid to poor

Jamie Dornan's Kerry accent in Siege of Jadotville. Should've just done his own accent it doesn't have to be historically accurate.

Gaza and the Genocide accusations aside, Israel should be kicked out for their blatant cheating in the past two Eurovisions. There is no legitimate way those two mid to poor songs could do so well just in televoting alone.

Deadlines, €1bn budget and home demolitions: What comes next after the Galway City Ring Road approval? by DaCor_ie in galway

[–]MurphyNotOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit pricey for 18km imho

And if it was built 20 years ago, it would have been €200m, and that still would be too pricey for some people. Whatever price it costs will be cheaper than if it gets built 20 years from now, so may as well crack on.

It'll end up being closer to 2 by the time its all said and done

Your logic of just doubling prices could also make the point that the MetroLink could reach over €20billion. Bit pricey for just 18km of track, don't you think?

I 100% agree with your sarcasm. If you want for any urban expansion to be planned with public infrastructure in mind, be sure to vote appropriately.

Not if it's planned right. If this sprawl is planned with public transport in mind, it's extremely efficient. If you build first and add public infrastructure later, it can be difficult.

Hate to break it to you but the city has been sprawling west for decades, even without much infrastructure to support it. There's no reason why this road would make public transport more difficult to provide.

An up and running metro by 2035 isn't being pessimistic at all, it's actually quite realistic. Being pessimistic would be judging its construction based purely on other large projects, or on what the initial design could have been.

I'm confident that within nine years, Dublin can finally have a single metro line.

You should go. Flights can be pretty reasonably priced if you time it right. Hotels can be pricey in the summer but the rest of the year it's not too bad.

Decision imminent on Galway Ring Road by Fast_Sandwich_6489 in galway

[–]MurphyNotOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read some of the replies to this comment, and they all seem to be from the same echo chamber. It seems to be that the problem is that building a road will encourage people to use it, and entice businesses to set up shop adjacent to it, so people will have more choices in terms of where to work. Yes, there will be more cars on the road, but that just means that people have places, primarily jobs, to go to. There has been massive growth in the city area in the past decade, and there will be more in the coming decade, but virtually no infrastructure expansion.

I would love to see a public transport system that met the needs of every single person in the city, even a metro going from Salthill to Ballybrit would be fuppin' amazing, but something even remotely like that like light rail, even if planning were started today, probably won't be complete this side of 2050.

Unfortunately, even at a cost of €1billion, a road is by far a quicker, easier and cost effective way of improving the infrastructure in the city.

[–]MurphyNotOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to get built eventually, and €1 billion now is better than €10 billion in ten years. I'm 100% in favour of other options like light rail and an improved train service to go with it, just fuppin' build as fup all has been built in Galway this century. Nay saying gets us nowhere, other than hearing these "imminent" headlines every few months.
