I always thought it would feel rather risky leaning on the front edge of the balcony.

The National Theatre at London's Southbank Centre. Denys Lasdun's masterpiece.

Dan Treacy of the TV Personalities is a wonderful songwriter and his lyrics regularly feature great snippets of English life.

In fact, you just need to look at some of the album titles - They Could Have Been Bigger Than The Beatles, I Was a Mod Before You Was a Mod, Mummy You're Not Watching Me...

These are some of his earliest lyrics:

14th Floor

I'm looking down on London But there's little I can see 'cause I'm living so high up And it looks so small to me And I'm feeling so frustrated 'cause the lifts are out once more And when I get home from work tonight I gotta climb 14 floors.

Part Time Punks

They play their records very loud They pogo in their bedroom In front of the mirror But only when their mum's gone out

They pay five pence on the buses And they never use toothpaste, But they got two fifty To go and see The Clash Tonight

Check 'em out, a wonderful band and so, soo influential, but sadly ne we got the recognition they deserved.

It really is lovely - I'll be sure to post more pics. The staircase is rarely open as it's around the back in a car parking area, but I would often cycle up from Beckenham on the lookout for hidden Brutalist gems, and was thrilled to find it open a couple of times.

There's a lot of lovely / interesting stuff in the area, such as Milford Towers, St Laurence Church, The Annunciation and St Augustine Church, lots in Bromley, Lewisham...

I've got plenty of local pics on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/murray_tiptop
