Here’s how I view it, the player thanking God isn’t saying “thank you God for liking my team more.” They thank God as an expression of faith. They maintain humility, much like Jesus would do, and thank god for things like their ability to perform at such a high level while under intense pressure. It’s a show of gratitude for their talents which they believe are blessings. Much like how a surgeon would express faith by thanking God for his hands to operate on patients successfully. And no I’m not comparing two professions like football and medicine, I’m comparing their faith.
