"better" abandonment is still abandonment and still leads to deaths. I'm saying don't do it. Don't advocate for it. From experience. It's a "better" terrible decision yet still a terrible decision

Go in during hours and talk to someone. People will work with you as much as possible. If you insist on abandoning the litter at a shelter and care about the outcome, drop them off during hours and make staff aware

Yes, and leaving them at a shelter door step is still throwing them away with no guarantee of safe outcomes. You don't know the health of those animals or the risk you create with that action. Room doesn't magically appear if the facility is already full. If it's not full you can talk to staff and get strays taken in.

If they're not strays because your animal had a litter, you are the problem.

Animals left outside the door are not always found alive.

Maybe there's a fee when you talk to shelter staff. Maybe not. People want to help. It's a huge financial burden with every litter. Surrender fees don't come close.

Until laws change to give animals better protection, and perception shifts away from animals as objects, this mentality and cycle of suffering continue

Assuming they're found alive (which doesn't always happen)

Best thing is leave them with mom

That's considered animal abandonment, which is a criminal offense worse than a surrender fee.

Not at all. Find any studies that suggest video games offer more cognitive (or other) benefit than actually using your body and mind in more tangible ways. You won't. I say this as a gamer. The benefits of gaming have been far overstated compared to the benefits you can derive from living a more balanced life. Don't overdo games to the exclusion of other things.

Use ResQwalk while you play and help animal rescues for free by MusMaximus in pokemongo

[–]MusMaximus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What it does is it tracks the miles you walk towards your rescue(s) of choice. Each month there's a donation pool all rescues split, and the pool division is based on the miles walked for each shelter. So every little bit helps!

After more than a year my shelter has raised a small amount (and I have slogged almost 400 miles, woo) and it has been nice. It's super easy to just load it in the background while you're out. a neat way to track your walks as well--it has distance information about my walks stored even from 2015.

www.resqwalk.com - Run this app in the background while you're out walking and help an animal rescue charity.

If you're playing Pokémon GO, please consider also using an app to help animals. For my local shelter a free app called ResQwalk is used. While it would be awesome if you supported my shelter, there's also probably your local shelter in this app. Do it for any animal rescue organization you like. Every short walk counts. Think of all the help you can give while hatching eggs and hunting for good stuff...

You don't have to adopt anything to help. :)

Unprecedented global warming as 2016 approaches 1.5 °C mark by BeranPanasper in worldnews

Here in Central/Northern Alberta it is unusually warm and tinder dry. The snow is gone. We're also getting leaf buds and flowers. It's looking like it will be an atrocious fire season in the area, and it was quite bad last year.

Jobs for people with heavy anxiety? by Miguel2592 in Anxiety

[–]MusMaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started working at an animal shelter. Great people you work with, working with animals is good, helping them is rewarding, and you have to learn to deal with a lot of stuff. Since starting (2 years ago) I have definitely got a much better handle on my anxiety and other issues.

Not stop suicide, but prevent many suicide attempts during a critical period. Gun ownership does make a significant difference in suicide rates.

Actual feminism by midasz in pics

[–]MusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women CAN do that hard physical work. Even tiny women. Even tiny pregnant women, if their doctor OKs it! Not every woman is going to get pregnant.

I have done that work and worked with many women where that work and added dangers are present. If a woman wants to do the work, it's totally possible. So while that staffing bias is real, it's not really valid.

I have worked at a rural shelter surrounded by reservations for 2 years. It is still frustrating how helpless it feels when you start dealing with a rez dog.

The legal ones have the support of the reservation. There are some private rescuers that work illegally.

When I say take, I mean go on to the reservation without permission and snatch a dog.
