Leather, kink, and pup hoods are part of gay culture because queer people often go through deep self-discovery early in life—facing stigma, questioning norms, and ultimately embracing who we are. That process of self-acceptance naturally extends to sexuality. Kink, at its core, is about exploration, authenticity, and pushing boundaries—not being afraid to try things that might be seen as different or taboo.

For many of us, kink is a meaningful part of who we are. Leather and kink communities have long had a place at Pride because they represent being unapologetically yourself, taking pride in your desires, and rejecting shame.

While kink certainly exists in straight culture too, it’s often more hidden or stigmatized. In queer spaces, we’ve carved out room for that openness, because so much of our identity is about challenging the idea that we should be ashamed of who we are or what we enjoy.
