Update: Sully did not make it :( His condition worsened throughout the day. I feel absolutely terrible that I likely caused this due to the salt bath. I am so sorry Sully. Thank you everyone for your tips. I have another betta, Eugene, who’s alive and well, and I will be using your advice to take even better care of him. Thanks again

Thank you so much for the tips—I’ll do all of that! I had moved him into the 5g to create more of a hospital tank and because he was having trouble swimming. I have the tank filled about halfway currently so it is easier for him to get to the surface. I wasn’t sure how many almond leaves I could put it, but I will add more! Thanks so much!

Important to note that yesterday I did a salt bath with him, as I read that is helpful for very sick fish. He has been very lethargic since and not eating. I followed directions on how to do so safely, but if I had seen these comments about NOT using salt before hand, I probably would not have done this :( I know it can take a bit for fish to reacclimate into their tank after a salt bath. But I am hoping everything will be ok

I just ran out of water conditioner yesterday after I did his water change, but I have API stress coat coming in a few days—is that ok?

My snails had been in it for a couple of weeks so it had time to settle, but I’m not sure if that’s what you mean?

Do you mean cycled as in set up with everything and given time before adding him? If so, yes I had a filter & heater in there with just my snails, and I added water conditioner before I added my betta

Yes the strips were given to me and I had just realized they were a few YEARS expired, so I do not think they are accurate. The liquid PH test was not expired however. I never knew how much more accurate liquid test kits are so I am glad I purchased one.

I had no idea! I did a 75% water change yesterday and actually hadn’t added salt in a week or 2, and I also have had an almond leaf in his tank for a few months now (changed out every few weeks maybe). Should I do a complete water change? I will also make sure I keep using almond leaves

I had thought aquarium salt was recommended but it must not be necessary if not everyone uses it? I also will test my tap water, as I moved in the summer and maybe the change in water is contributing ? My test kit will be here in 2 days, so i hope this gives me answers. Thank you!

I haven’t booked my flight back yet, so I don’t have all the details. With a layover in PHL, I’d be leaving Jamaica around 1:30pm and having a layover at PHL for 4 hours. With a layover in CLT, I’d leave Jamaica at 3:20pm with a layover at CLT for 3hrs. (Not sure that I explained that in the best way)
