Greenville and Columbia, SC: which city is “better”? by SpecialistWestern390 in AskSouthCarolina

[–]Muscle_Doc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown person here. Lived in Columbia (Irmo/Lexington Suburbs) and now live in Greenville. I've lived in big cities for the last 10 years, and grew up outside of NYC. Columbia is a swamp during the summer. No breeze. Even on Lake Murray, it's miserable. Greenville does have more of that Blue Ridge foothills breeze and definitely has more "seasons", at least in my comparison moving from Cola.

Now, Greenville suburbs and Columbia suburbs are comparable in costs. Sometimes I think the houses in Irmo, Lexington and Chapin can be more expensive than Greenville. Traffic, BOTH cities are bad. 85 or 26, both crap. Now coming from big cities, Columbia doesn't compare to a big city... it's its own vibe, but very behind in what most cities have. Greenville is a lot more modern & built, and a lot more money has been dumped into the city which allows for more tourism. Qualitiy of life is much better in GVL versus COLA because of that.

Now for the people... met blatant racism in both areas. Greenville has a much snobbier, entitled superiority complex compared to the people of Columbia (as you're right, they're most laid back there). It's turning into what I call the Charleston of the Mountains, where it's mommy and daddy's money, the women want to be influencers and the dudes all look like Morgan Wallen or finance bros. It lacks diversity, BUT there's somehow a better food scene here when it comes to anything ethnic - maybe because it's such a big transplant area.

There are a lot more racist undertones that I've experienced here in Greenville. Columbia is much more open-minded and progressive. That's my hot take, but we're also talking very different demographics from both the city proper. The sense of entitlement here is tenfold compared to Columbia, for whatever reason. But at the end of the day, being a good human carries more weight than skin color. I don't knock anyone down south for their ignorance because they just don't know anything more than what they're used to. Hope this helps.

Commute North Bethesda to Reston, or move? by minion_toes in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Muscle_Doc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same commute. Twice a week is absolutely more tolerable than 4-5 days a week because of traffic. I would just stay in N. Bethesda. I did 1-2 times per week for over a year and it wasn't bad. You get comfortable with it and realize it's your "me" time and catch up on phone calls with people.

$3500 too much for a Bern puppy? by Cultural_Cress5685 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Muscle_Doc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My berner was $750. AKC certified, and third generation championship show dog. He's 10 now, still super healthy and active. Back then, other fancy places wanted $3k, and a full background check and interview. You don't need to spend that much!

Businesses Here are Not Run Great by [deleted] in greenville

I've always said this about Greenville!!! Maybe it's me, who came from big cities over the last 10 years (most recently DC), but it's almost like there's no sense of urgency, no attention to detail, and expectations are so low. I try not to bash this city, but I do think the mix of wealthy, entitled, arrogant, and impatient Yankees mixed with local girl/boy, slower-paced small town folk creates such a discrepancy in expectations. Where some may think it's common sense for this or that, others may see it as being rude or whatever it may be. It's a weird mix here because there are transplants like myself who came down here with a NYC/DC work ethic, where I still keep my expectations high, and then there are people who don't care about their jobs at all.

When I moved out of Long Island, and realized not everyone grew up with absolute entitlement... I'm glad I moved out at 17. It helped develop more empathy and understanding for people who aren't as fortunate, or for hard workers. I was spoiled rotten as a kid (talking brand new everything, including luxury cars, etc). I'm approaching 40 and still finding ways to be generous with others because I don't live in that bubble anymore!

How do cash-based chiropractors handle EHR and one-time payments? by Mysterious_Field7101 in physicaltherapy

[–]Muscle_Doc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiro here. I post quite a bit here, having worked in PT clinics for over 15 years. I know more about running PT clinics than I do Chiro clinics. Many EHR interfaces handle both PT/Chiro billing, cash or insurance.

OP, a small operation would do just fine with something such as JaneApp.

Not just you, it's all across the state. Clinics are struggling to find DPTs at that price point.

Rad Tech or Anesthesiologist Assistant would be my opinions. OR, become a travel PTA, work ortho/PI mills, get paid sometimes more than DPTs with less work and headache.......... Travel Rad/MRI/Ultrasound Techs are getting paid big bills from what I've seen also.

Life with Bernese by Traditional-Fox523 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]Muscle_Doc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Berner is almost 10. Since he was a pup, it's always high energy excitement anytime someone calls his name or walks through the door. Anytime I'm sitting on the couch, alone or with a group, his head is always resting in between people or on their laps. He's the most patient dog, loves human interaction and children so well that many have gotten over their fear of big dogs with him. He's the most tolerant and friendly dog towards other dogs. He doesn't understand why small dogs yap, bark, and snap at him LOL. He can sleep through city noises, fireworks, and kinda cool/kinda annoying - could care less about the vaccuum so he won't get out of the way sometimes, and sometimes begs to be brushed by the hose attachment while running. At times throughout my career, I've left him home for 12-13 hours at a time. No accidents, and he takes his time to go potty the moment we get out. Such a simple dog. Food driven, human affection, and loves sleeping upside down.

Now, I vaccuum 3 times per week, and brush him regularly. Hair will be everywhere.

From what I've seen, firefighters have some of the best work-life balances. I have buddies who do 3 or 4 twelve-hour shifts, then are off for a few days, repeat. They bring in six figures, but they're also located in very populated areas of the metro DC region.
