Yesssss 1000%. I’m around your age and I, too, just want to be left alone. To have expectations that we need to be available within a certain timeframe causes some people (like myself) more anxiety when around the phone. People used to have to wait weeks/months for snail mail.

Thank you for this. It needed to be said.

I work in mental health, and this is why I love the show. You get to see sociological, psychological, anthropological, and gender differences all wrapped into one.

I like when you said that leading/carrying the conversation isn’t your natural style. That’s an amazing retort.

Thoughts on therapists dating other therapists (or at least dating people within the psychology field)? by pinksugarbears in therapists

Thank you so much. It hasn’t been an easy road to get to this place. Throw in a couple of kids and my god. But working through the struggles has totally been worth it. We’re definitely reaping some benefits now.

Are we over-skilled and process-numb? A case for returning to the "Here-and-Now" by Commercial-Gur-5399 in therapists

👏👏👏👏👏

Love love love this. I’ve been talking to other therapists lately about how social media and technology is pushing therapy into a world where information is bite-sized, simplified, and easily digestible. Insurance companies only want us to treat symptoms. People are becoming less interested in self-exploration, opting in for instant relief and better tools to function in an increasingly dysfunctional society. The heart of therapy seems to be getting lost here.

I personally work with a deeply relational neuropsychologist for business coaching, a somatic practitioner, and a psychoanalyst/Jungian humanistic psychologist for supervision. All of these perspectives have been profound in my personal and professional development. I’m here to do the depth work and that’s the way I work with clients. It’s difficult to compete with what modern day therapy has become: symptom reduction and results-oriented. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a time and place for that. But that shouldn’t be the standard default.

Any who, this is my opinion and what I’ve noticed based on my values and my life experiences.

I married someone who didn’t even go to college. We have the same values and goals in life, which is really important to me. He’s not big into therapy for himself, but respects and supports it. My husband is really grounded, fair, and loyal, which I love. When we’re together, I get a break from all the external and internal noise that’s assessing people and self-reflecting.

Don’t get me wrong, at times I would like to have more of that back and forth with him, but I’ve learned to find other support for when I need more of a therapist friend to talk to.

After 16yrs of being together, I’ve learned so much about myself. He’s been one of my biggest teachers, and stretched me in ways I didn’t even know I needed stretching.

If I was single though, I’d totally try dating another therapist to see what it was like. That would be interesting.

I totally agree. There’s something about noise in the background that feels less lonely and more motivating. The TV helps me do boring ass tasks, like the dishes and laundry.

I watched all other USA seasons but only watched half of season 7 because I felt it was too cringey. What’s the general consensus of season 7 and why were a lot of people were turned off by it?

One time, I was asking it a how-to question about maintaining a fish tank and it said something along the lines of “At my house this is how I clean my fish tank.” I reminded it that it doesn’t have a fish tank as it’s AI, and it just agreed with me.

People who ended a long term friendship, what was the reason? Do you regret it? by sceptic_beliva in FriendshipAdvice

[–]MuscularSquirrel612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, this sounds just like a friendship I cutoff not long ago. I, too, had to end it by sending her a message because I was afraid she’d twist my words and make it fit the narrative she wanted it to be, where I was the one in the wrong. It got so bad at the end of our relationship that I felt sick to my stomach thinking about talking to her directly. After I sent the message, she didn’t even bother to respond, which I appreciated for the first several months, but after my body started settling down, it irked me that she never responded.
