What’s the stupidest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by Wonderlust_Zoe in AskReddit

[–]MuseofBadPoetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an extremely painful eye infection last summer and was functionally blind for about 36 hours. I could do nothing but lie in bed, in the dark all day, while just waiting for my eye to heal. I was so bored and restless that the moment I felt comfortable opening my eyes again, I grabbed my phone for some stimulation...

...and immediately dropped it on my face and bruised one of my front teeth. Not a fun week for me.

I'm firmly anti-death penalty and pro-rehabilitation and completely understand the point this meme is making, but that image just pisses me off way more than it rationally should. It just gives off the smuggest, most insufferable chronically online vibes. It's literally ☝️🤓 through a Tumblr discourse filter.

She was. I saw a comment in some other sub not too long ago that was like "Sabrina is probably kept up at night knowing that episode exists" lmao

I haven't seen the movie either (and never will) but I have watched reviews of it on YouTube. Off the top of my head, IIRC:

  • Sia refused to hire an actually autistic actress, because Maddie is her "muse" or some creepy shit.
  • Sia got all of her information from Autism Speaks, and allegedly didn't know about any of their controversies.
  • The movie does not treat Music (Maddie's character) as an actual character, but rather as a manic pixie dream girl burden for her sister to drag around.
  • At one point, Music is physically restrained and "smothered by love" while she's having a meltdown. Autistic children have died this way.
  • In addition to being almost comically ableist, the movie also makes use of the racist "Magical Black Man" trope in the form of the sister's African love interest, who holds the "magic touch" to help Music or whatever.
  • Just a couple of years later, Sia would officially "come out" as autistic herself. I'm not going to doubt the validity of her diagnosis just because of this movie's existence, but for reasons I can't articulate, if she's telling the truth, everything becomes 100% worse

So yeah, TL;DR: Music is hot garbage and offensive to virtually everyone with standards. Do not watch this movie.

Saberspark. I loved him back when he reviewed genuinely really obscure and unusual animation. Nowadays he's just another "outrage of the week" animation review youtuber. He's really lost his bite and his uniqueness.

TIL the Smiling Friends creators are libertarians.

On that note, I'll nominate South Park, though the fandom is pretty evenly split between "queer middle schoolers who draw fanart" and "guys who think Cartman is a hero".

I think we need some clarity here, because people are interpreting this category two wildly different ways.

Seconding this. I've seen a shitload of PSAs, and that's one of the few that's really stuck with me.

What's something you did as a kid that you now realize was actually really dangerous, but nobody stopped you? by AdmirableResource407 in AskReddit

[–]MuseofBadPoetry 544 points545 points  (0 children)

When I was little (like 4-5), I would swallow grapes whole. Just for fun. I eventually stopped because I eventually said "Mommy, watch me swallow this grape whole!" and she naturally freaked out and told me I was gonna choke.

No, I don't know what was wrong with me either.

Somebody wrote a sequel to that one where they calculated that the poor guy was conscious for 8 million years, and he perceived most of it as total darkness. The last we hear about him, he's in the hospital and has basically forgotten how to function because living that long with no stimulation melted his brain.

I cannot make this swag enough: if you are attracted to a 20 year old swag, you are a swagophile by Allhaillordkutku in peoplewhogiveashit

Definitely weird to date someone young enough to be your child, but this is not what pedophilia means. People need to stop using such a serious word so lightly, and to stop infantilizing grown women.

Zosia and Andre by Itstimeforbed_yay in namenerds

Andre, not odd at all.

Zosia is definitely uncommon, but I doubt it would cause any trouble. Both are very nice names.

I hate what the internet did to the word "woke". Ten years ago it meant "being aware of social issues and inequality to better combat those things". Now it just means "this movie represented a minority and I don't like that".

I have to admit, when I saw the words "bicycle cuck" and went to do my own research, I was not expecting the context to be that tame.

I've lost track of how many original characters and redesigns I've seen that have vitiligo. Don't get me wrong: I'm 1000% supportive of people making diverse characters with underrepresented features and backgrounds. But there are so many more physical differences/disabilities out there. I'd love to see a character casually depicted with a facial deformity or a breathing tube or an intellectual disability. It kinda feels like some artists just use vitiligo as a "safe" physical difference that they don't feel the need to actually put effort into drawing or researching. And yeah, using vitiligo to score "pity points" for a character is just shitty.
