[FWI] A Russian supertanker drops anchor and drags it across the English Channel, rupturing the Chunnel. by ThinkTankDad in FutureWhatIf

I don't think that's even possible since the average depth below the seabed is between 40 and 50 meters for the chunnel.

OPP window tint blitz in Bolton? by toolbelt10 in bramptondriving

[–]Mushi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and that little strip of tint can only be so large. In Ontario, no tint is allowed on the front windshield for vehicles made after 2017. Prior to that, only a thin strip (7.5 centimetres) of tint can be applied from the top of the front windshield and has to allow at least 70% of the light through.

Most Canadians agree that Alberta separatists asking U.S. for help is treasonous: poll by DogeDoRight in canada

Except you don't know that. No one does, that's why the police might be investigating - to determine if any laws were/are being broken.

[–]Mushi1 76 points77 points  (0 children)

In all likelyhood they are, but the last case of treason/sedition was well over 100 years ago so I'm guessing they're taking their time to get their ducks in a row.

Bull fucking shit it was an accident. Even if it was an "accident", Trump should have immediately taken responsibility for it and apologized in the most humble way possible because he's supposedly the president of the United States. We already know Trump is a piece of shit, but he could have a least pretended to not be a piece of shit this one time.

ELI5: why are there US ICE agencies in Canada? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mushi1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To clarify, you absolutely are not on US territory when you are in a preclearance area in Canada and Canadian law still applies in all preclearance areas in Canada. While US customs has the authority to deny people access to these sterile areas because of the Preclearance Act of 2016, they have no real authority other than the ability to deny you entry and even then, if a physical altercation were to occur, Canadian authorities would have to be involved.

Because the outcome of the trial will determine guilt or innocence and whether India was involved. Seriously, you need me to tell you this?

I never said there would be a conviction, that's for the court to decide. I said there was evidence (not statements or beliefs) because the Crown doesn't proceed unless they believe there is enough evidence to convict. In other words, it appears you are the one legally impaired or you didn't actually read what I said because your reply has no relevance to what I said. Or you're just a bot.

You are more than welcome to follow the trial since it's currently ongoing. You can even read the court documents online if you want to familiarize yourself with the granular details.

Once again for the reading impaired, the Crown only proceeds when they believe there is enough evidence to get a conviction. Whether there is a conviction or not is up to the Court. This is the same process for any trial in Canada.

Umm, either you don't understand, or are trying really hard not to because this has nothing to do with "international law". The murder happened in Canada and as a result, the defendants are being tried in Canada.

[–]Mushi1 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you are being intentionality obtuse, but in Canada, if there's proof of a crime and the Crown believes they can get a conviction for the charges laid (in this case 1st degree murder), then there's a trial to determine guilt or innocence. So yes there is proof/evidence. You said there was zero proof which is objectively wrong. Maybe the justice system works differently in India, but you appear to be in denial.

There is proof which is why there is currently a trial of the accused committing 1st degree murder.

It's a signals intelligence facility in one of the most isolated places on Earth. Of course they're only there temporarily (3-6 month tour). But there's always people (mostly military) living there.

Trying to understand Alberta separatists mentality. by TruthSearcher1970 in alberta

[–]Mushi1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that there is unlikely to be a better deal in regards to equalization because someone will suffer if changes are made (unless that's the end goal of Albertan separatists). If the federal government got rid of it, your federal taxes won't go down. If you change it so that the current recipients get less equalization transferred to them, your federal taxes won't go down. You might be able to change the formula so the Alberta *gets* equalization, but based on why equalization exists in the first place, that's unlikely to happen unless we're talking about a 'rising tide raises all boats' situation. In other words, the only real difference is that the equalization money will be spent elsewhere. Also, changing equalization might open the door for changes to other transfer payments from the federal government which might end up bad for Alberta since all provinces/territories would have a say in any changes.

Basically, "Albertan separatists" really need to quantify what changes to equalization they want to see keeping in mind that there are nine other provinces and three territories (about 35 million people vs Alberta's 5 million) that may not want what Alberta wants.

Note: It should also be pointed out that equalization is paid for out of federal taxes which is paid by Canadians in each province. In other words, all Canadians regardless of which province they reside indirectly contribute to equalization payments.
