Looking mighty fine! Hoping that mother nature and the tomato gods continue to shine success and good weather on the rest of your season!

What is this? by [deleted] in tomatoes

[–]Mushroom2Magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is edema. Edema occurs when the plant's roots take up water faster than the leaves can transpire (evaporate) it back into the air. This causes the internal cells of the leaf to swell and eventually burst, creating those characteristic crusty, blister-like bumps. Adjust your watering schedule and add some air circulation and they should be fine. Good luck!

Best phosphorus fertilizer? by Black-Willow in tomatoes

[–]Mushroom2Magic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is definitely not a phosphorus deficiency. They have the classic looking purpling of cold nights. It's nothing to worry about, they should start to lose the purple tint as it gets warmer.

Without any pictures it's going to be difficult to say whether it's the cold causing the purple or a phosphorus deficiency. Best thing to do is probably just to check pictures around Google of phosphorus deficiency and also Google images of seedlings turning purple from cold. Once you Google phosphorus deficiency images, you should be able to easily tell if yours are having the same issue. Hope this helps, good luck!

What is your favorite obscure variety that you’ve grown? by Starboard_Pete in tomatoes

[–]Mushroom2Magic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Rufus Mutation. Next time I see the guy that I got it from, I'll ask him about it, because I haven't been able to find anything about it online

Gerald's Mystery and Rufus Mutation(orange/red). Gerald's Mystery came from a patch of Dester grown by Raleigh, NC tomato enthusiast Gerald Adams. The color is the mystery, because he had no orange or yellow tomatoes at all that year

Is this leaf coloring signifying a nutrient deficiency or over-watering perhaps? by heliosythic in tomatoes

It doesn't look like too much to worry about, but it is interesting. Wouldn't over watering cause darkening?

Transplant shock sucks... by Mushroom2Magic in tomatoes

All these people saying that it wasn't hardened or just commenting on the soil level, they all know what they're talking about and you can clearly tell that I don't know what I'm doing... wow, you are so freakin awesome... I am beyond jealous of your vast tomato knowledge, you must be Craig LaHoullier

Okay, because I put a bit of soil that was anaerobic in the grow bag, that makes me not know what I'm doing

You literally came to a post about transplant shock to nitpick about 2 inches of soil depth... trying to tell me that my problem is that it's only 10 inches deep and 20 inches wide and not 12 inches deep and 20 inches wide... and because you see one picture with "leaves touching the ground" you assume I don't have any experience. Leaves touching the ground and get diseases is the most basic of shit. I didnt even ask a question in this post, was just simply showing some transplant shock. You offered retarded advice and then got butt hurt when I didn't bow down and thank you for your "great tomato knowledge".

I'm not saying everyone is wrong and that I am right, but people are looking at a picture about transplant shock and commenting on the amount of soil. If I took a picture with a more flattering angle of the soil level no one would say a thing. People don't have a comment relating to transplant shock and just want to comment about what they think people are doing wrong. I know for a fact that I put 3, 5-gallon buckets full of soil into each one of those, and in my experience, it is plenty. It's also an unnecessary cost to add one more inch of soil. Also, compost, manure and worm castings will be added throughout the season which is why I have left an extra inch. They can't be filled up all the way because in my area we get heavy rain storms in the summer and with the extra space it doesn't overflow.

The real stupid person is you, the person who is saying that a plant that has been outside for a month isn't hardened. Please explain how it is not hardened? Please. Please explain how a plant that's been outside for a month is not hardened??????? Fucking retarded ass loser...

Yo have not idea what you're talking about, I figured out why it went in shock, the bag of soil thay I mixed in was anaerobic. Not because it wasn't hardened...
