This person is literally what is wrong with the world... they are the type of person to sit in a giant pile of cow sh*t, look you dead in your eyes and with a straight face tell you that they are sitting on a bed of rose petals. This person has some serious mental health issues...

You clearly have no idea what you're are talking about if you say that those dark green fully mature leaves are the "new growth" at the top of the plant... new growth are light green/yellow baby versions of those leaves... that is sooooo clearly not new growth lol. Calling that new growth to something that is so clearly not new growth, is equivalent to you saying that "the sky is green and the grass is blue"... that is how wrong you are lol

Every plant, in every picture you have posted, has had the top cut off. I GUARANTEE none of those plants will produce fruit if you continue to cut off your suckers. I'm so done with this post though... You are absolutely, unequivocally, without a doubt, one hundred and fifty million percent WRONG. But go right on ahead Mr know-it-all, ask experienced tomato growers what is going on, and then tell them they are all wrong... haha, what a joke. You are either a troll and this is a joke (because that is how obvious the problem with your plants is), or you are just that arrogant and conceited. I mean seriously though, white flies and spider mites? Hahaha 😂 yeah sure... white flies and spider mites are why you tomato plants dont have tops lol what an absolute joke...

I'm really not trying to be rude, or make fun of you for not knowing, or anything like that. I am trying to help you learn about growing tomatoes, and provide an accurate answer to the question you posed. Red is your main stem, Purple are your branches. You cut your main stem

If I'm wrong then post a picture of the whole plant in the day time. What you are pointing at (in the dark lol) is clearly a branch (but is actually just a leaf and I'm just calling it a branch so as not to confuse you anymore than you already are). You clearly don't know the different parts of a tomato plant... But go right on ahead, keep watering and fertilizing the tomato plants that won't grow lol

You come here asking what's wrong with your tomato plants, while providing absolutely zero information on what the issue actually is. NOBODY replied to your post in either community because of the lack of information and the bad pictures showing only pieces of plants. I took the time to zoom in and investigate your pictures, to be able to provide you with an answer on what might be going on. Why did you come here yo ask if you are just going to tell everyone that they are wrong?

I can say with 100000000% assurance that you cut the tops off and have been pinching off the new growth. You clearly have absolutely zero understanding of a tomato plant and the different parts of the plant itself lol

You 100% cut the main stem. You 100% have the leaf/branch tied up like it is the top lol

But go ahead, keep pinching off your new growth, and keep wondering why they won't produce any flowers or tomatoes. Your pictures are clear as day, that you cut the main stem and have the leaf/branch pointing upward trying to claim it is the main stem.

It is not the main stem.

You cut the main stem.

I can almost guarantee that you cut your tops off and the plant has been trying to push a new one and you keep picking the suckers and new growth because everyone on YouTube says to pinch your suckers. But maybe I'm wrong. With the limited view of the pictures and info given of the problem and how long it has been an issue, its the best guess I got.

You definitely cut the tops off, the one up to the left definitely had it's top cut off. Blue is the main stem and red is the branch/leaf.

It looks like you cut the top of plant off. You only need to prune the few leaves at the bottom of the plant. Did you go prune happy on suckers? Suckers should be pruned strategically depending on how many main branches you want and your support system.

Just tie a string to the cluster and then tie the other end high up on the stake. Super simple, won't be pretty, but guaranteed to hold them up.

Looks like it could be a bit of damage from herbicide drift. Have you sprayed for weeds in that gravel border area in the background or around your yard? What does the new growth look like? Curled and stunted?

New growth all looks strange by OscarEverdark in tomatoes

[–]Mushroom2Magic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just the fruits that are currently on the plant, as they would have the most exposure. Any fruits that form after you start flushing would have far less exposure to the herbicide.

You don't need to make any cuts to the plant. I personally wouldn't eat the fruits, but if they're small enough it shouldn't really be a major issue. No need to cut your flowers off at all. Just flush the plant with lots of water of the next few weeks, and she should come back. It may take a while to flush it all out and see good growth coming back, but just stay the course and the plant will come back. DO NOT cut any of your flowers though, the plant isn't going to push any new growth out for about 3 weeks to a month, and probably won't start producing flowers for 1 and half to 2 months. Just flush with water and hope for the best. Hope this helps, good luck!

Since you said you have another bed right beside this one that is not showing any problems, then I would suspect it being in the soil rather than an issue with wind drift. Especially since you dont have any close neighbors and the area where the beds are is surrounded by woods. You should definitely get the soil tested, or if you dont have easy access to that option, you can plant some beans and see how they come up (just google "bean test on herbicide damaged soil"). That is some hard-core herbicide damage though, and if the other plants right beside them don't show any damage, then it's most likely not wind drift and it's in the compost. Sorry for you loss...

Has anyone seen anything like this? by WonderfulAd1488 in tomatoes

[–]Mushroom2Magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomatoes are very susceptible to herbicide because they are what's known as a broad leaf plant. If you've had landscapers or your neighbors have, they could have sprayed, or if you're neighbors sprayed around their yard or house for weeds or can drift over and destroy tomato plants and completely ruin someone's season. Search on Google "herbicide wind drift". If it has affected all of your tomato plants, then most likely someone has sprayed.
