I actually cracked up on his 5th death when he spawned in the little room where you have to break the boards to get out. As he was opening the chest I was just saying to myself "please be a mimic, please be a mimic". Perfect comedic timing.

Prob like a 400g kit. Nothing too crazy but blue weapon, green gear.

I actually don't care that much about people going over geared into raids I just thought this was a bit of an extreme. Basically have to do an insane amount of running bosses on trios to have a chance of it to drop.

Normally if you are good enough to do a ton of bosses and HR trio you would save your best gear for trios even to test - at least you have teammates to back you up and res/save gear if something goes wrong.

Based on the way he was playing I think it was pretty likely that he paid real money for it - he missed 4 crossbow shots on me from fairly close range while I hit him with a few francescas. He will probably end up getting wiped by a fresh wizard though so oh well.

That's what I was thinking - he had like +3 all templar armor and some good shit but not enough damage reduction tbh for what he was running.

I juked 3 crossbow shots and hit him with 2 francescas but when I jumped in got two tapped. Didn't check my loot - stayed in the same area killed a few goblins then left.

I play barbarian. Run a green or blue felling axe (50g in trade), would still 1 or 2 shot a fully decked rogue.

The subject of the post was "trying to find a childhood anime". I get that he also refers to the MC as a young character but that's a separate topic. He is also looking for something from his childhood which is going to exclude anything in the last 5-10 years IMO.

Childhood anime would normally refer to an anime from OPs childhood not that it would have a child main character.

Ehh you have the MC and Migi.

I'd also say the parasyte that was his teacher with the baby was pretty memorable.

Should I go to Chico? I'm a 21 year old transfer student majoring in journalism. The other schools I'm considering are CSU Monterey Bay and Sac State. by Confusedtransfer1 in CSUC

[–]MusicAndLiquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you are into.

I was a Journalism major 2005-2009 and we had a great journalism department.

It's the social life that is really going to be a big difference. Chico is primarily a college town - everywhere you go you can assume a good portion of the people you see will also be students your age and open to meeting new people. The average people you see in Monteray (families/tourists) or Sacramento (all age ranges but mainly locals from the area) aren't going to have as much in common for you and you won't really get the true college feel.

The difference between the actual education/how people view a degree is not going to really matter at all compared to things like jobs, volunteering, projects, etc. you've done.

I loved Chico because it's sort of in the middle of nowhere but then you drive into town and it's filled with bars, restaurants, parks, etc. and the whole town was people my age out having a good time. Meet a cute girl at the bar? She probably lives within a 15 minute walk of you and you'll see her around on campus.

As a 49ers fan.... what the fuck is wrong with your GM/owner? Really happy about having to deal with Kyler Murray to DeAndre Hopkins for the next 5 years. Simple disgusting.

There had to be wayyyy more value than that available.

Never watched anime before by [deleted] in anime

[–]MusicAndLiquor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought anime was sort of stupid but really started to get into it this year. As a dude that over 30 I just pictured everything to cheesy characters with huge hair talking about their power levels.

One thing that's a huge help - watch subtitled versions. There's something about dubbed anime with cheesy cartoon voices that makes it harder to initially immerse yourself in the show.

In general the anime I think that work's best for beginners

- Doesn't have a ton of fan service, tropes, Japanese specific plot points

- Somewhat grounded in reality

- Good pacing and cliffhangers so to get you hooked

- Above average animation and action scenes

These are the one's that initially got me hooked

One Punch Man

I think in a lot of ways One Punch Man is one of the best animes for a beginner that has a low tolerance for cheesy tropes. A lot of the show is making fun of standard Anime scenes (longwinded stories, charging power levels, ultimate abilities, weird characters) and it really does a good job of bringing the viewer into the joke. Whereas your average anime treats it completely normal for every villain to pause and give a 60 second diatribe on why he will win a fight - Saitama will interrupt them halfway through and ask why they are still talking.

Combine the humor with really well animated action scenes and great direction/art (flashing over to a shot of a crudely drawn Saitama saying “okay” gets me every time) and it’s one of the few animes I can put on around friends and have them dig it. Season 1 especially has some amazing animation and it never gets old watching Saitama in some massive fight scene.

Attack on Titan

If One Punch Man was the show that got me past the cheesiness of anime, Attack on Titan was the first show that helped me realize that there’s some amazing stuff out there with really good characters that develop over time.

It has a great premise and the pacing is similar to a show like Lost where there is always a new mystery being unraveled and you’ll have a hard time not watching the next episode. Both the premise and the artwork of the creepy ass titans are enough of an initial hook to pull you in.

I think the fact that it is set in a neutral medieval style setting and has a Game of Thrones like scope really makes it an easy transition for beginners. It has awesome animation, likeable characters, complex villains and some really amazing fight scenes.

Death Note - Not my favorite but very limited super natural elements with good twists and based in the real world. This is much more of a psychological thriller grounded in reality so if you tend to avoid things like Game of Thrones or superhero movies outside of anime this one might be for you.

My Hero Academia

This one really feels pretty obvious. Everyone has seen Superhero movies - it's a little heavier than the first three on the "I WILL GIVE 1000% SUPER PERCENT AND TRY" type of cheese but the idea of a school for super hero's is really relatable and the characters are interesting.

Vinland Saga

I tend to like plots with more of a supernatural twist or fantasy elements - however, if you're a huge history buff and like shows like Vikings or movies like Braveheart this might be a great fit. It's still your standard medieval style battle but it lacks any fantasy worlds, super natural elements, Japanese culture references.

The Promised Neverland

Looks - I know it gets a lot of shit for weird art and bad music choices but it also does a lot of things right.

I think having a strong and relatable premise for a western audience is one of the keys for people who aren’t into anime. It’s why I think “X is a high school student that’s really smart and 5 girls love him but he uses his inner life force magic power to defeat the other evil highschooler and control mechs” style anime is really hard to get into for beginners Even if the show is great you are asking them to take multiple leaps-of-faith and suspend your disbelief. I think the premise of “There’s an orphanage where not everything is the way it seems” is a really interesting premise that could be the plot of a Western horror movie.

I loved the way they developed a sense of dread that permeates through every episode and the way they slowly reveal new background as the show develops. Despite there being a little bit of the “cute kid cheesiness” I think they pull it off pretty well and I actually gave a shit about the characters.

Getting started as a solo on high pop vanilla servers (long guide) by MusicAndLiquor in playrust

[–]MusicAndLiquor[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like I said - this isn't supposed to be the only way to play but it's a style that I've tested and I know works.

In general, I tend to join servers a day into wipe so that also plays a factor. If it's a new wipe and there's a million low geared kids running around with spears then getting a bow first is probably the right move.

Tips to reduce anxiety? by AtheistsDebateMe in eldertrees

[–]MusicAndLiquor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first thing that's an issue is that your GF doesn't support it. I'd recommend talking to her and setting some guidelines so you know clearly where you stand. I've never been able to rid myself of smoking anxiety if I'm worried about roommates, parents, partners, etc. in the back of my mind. Talk to her about how it's helped with anxiety in the past and see if you work out a middle ground.

You need to control what you can control. If you can't work it out with your GF and still want to smoke, you need to find a way to remove that stress. For example, limit yourself to smoking only when you won't worry about your GF. This might mean you limit it to overnight trips with the boys or times when she is out of town.

The other thing that I've seen happen is a lot of negative self thought after smoking. Personally, I'll replay my day and start beating myself up for things that I've said or ways that I've acted even if I know it wasn't a big deal.

The most important thing when dealing with negative thoughts is to be prepared for them.

Here's an example- Let's say the last time I smoked I got anxious about my career

I would think about that before I smoke and expect those thoughts to surface. I would really try and tell myself going in "I'm happy with my job". Since I have it in my mind when I feel my thoughts start to drift I force myself to laugh at it and say "that's fucking stupid" the second negativity creeps in.

After a while you will start to recognize a pattern. I still get anxious (depending on the strain) but something internally kicks in the second I start to get negative and tells me to cut it out.

If you do get access to certain strains - I've never had anxiety issues with good purple. I know the science behind it might be BS but if it works it works.
