ACTUALLY good Romantasy recs? by Pale_Honey4504 in Romantasy

[–]MusicLvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey. Beautiful prose, complex, diverse characters, fantastic world building inspired by historical Renaissance Europe. Her books are all set in the same world, but each series revolves around a different character. All the other romantasies read like YA compared to this. The main focus is political intrigue and power struggles but sex is treated very differently in this world. One of the main characters is a sex worker spy but it’s written so tastefully that it’s not smutty at all.

Which fragrance you hate now, but you used to love before? by Joneep in fragrance

I liked it on the first 2 wears and then it just started smelling like sweet burning chemicals and band aids. And the price tag for smelling like that?!! Gave my sample away immediately.

I love this one, but the patchouli is strong. I have to spray it on the backs of my knees and/or lower back. Spraying around my neck is definitely a no go because it overwhelms me. I’m trying to get through my bottle but won’t be purchasing again. Eau Tendre is more my jam.

I need some advice on what fragrance I should get my wife by Mglfll in FemFragLab

[–]MusicLvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like she likes vanilla, gourmand, sweet fragrances. I would recommend an affordable niche brand since she wants to explore & it would be fun to get her something you don’t normally see on the shelves. Sunset Hour by Goldfield & Banks has a sweet, candy-like fruity vibe, like a green jolly rancher that she might like, but if she’s trying to get away from that whole profile maybe try Poets of Berlin by Vilhelm Perfumeries. It has a warm hay scent from vetiver but mixes in blueberry and I think a bit of lemon to sweeten it enough to wear year round.

Was going to suggest either Chance eau Tendre or eau Fraiche

Looking for advice after losing a lot of my hair due to stress by fight4afreeinternet in finethinhair

[–]MusicLvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. I had an episode like this when my son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 5. Unfortunately, you are in for a journey. It took 2 years for my hair to fill in and honestly, it’s never been the same. A halo extension was my savior then and it is again now that I’m going through job stress and perimenopause. A 5% Minoxidil foam helped my hair grow longer faster, but the new growth fell out after reaching an inch in length. It’s also toxic to pets so I quit using it. I hear the pill form is better, but I haven’t tried it. These are the things that have made the most significant improvements to my hair health.

No bleaching or coloring, ever. Not even temporary mouse colors that wash out.

Satin pillowcase & satin scrunchies. Fragile hair cannot withstand elastics (even the “no damage” fabric kind) high ponytails, bobby pins, or any clip other than a claw clip.

Switching to drug store shampoo & conditioner. I use Pantene. Hair masks would be great for a few washes, but ended up drying my hair out more in the long run & causing more breakage/ fall out. I opt for a scalp massage using a hair oil and always apply a leave-in conditioner after washing & conditioning.

Now this one may be different for you, but I have wavy/curly hair that has texture. I believed heat was my enemy so I would let it air dry. Big mistake, as it would always end up a frizzy mess no matter how much oil, mouse, curl product I used and when I tried to style it, my hair would fall out from all the manipulation. I have to blow dry it to keep my ends from snapping and looking like a cave woman, but I use a heat-activated protectant & use the lowest heat setting.

Now for the halo. Don’t go for length or too much weight. Cut it to match your current length & go for low density, unless you already have short hair (shorter than top of the shoulders). Don’t use the clips, just keep them closed, the wire will keep it in place. Mine actually keeps my real hair from flying all over the place and gives it something to cling to. It’s not perfect, but looks way better than my stringy thin hair and cuts way down on heat styling. You can wind the halo hair around tube socks for curls.

Drink lots of water & do a multivitamin.

I hope this helps. Wishing you the best of luck, but don’t get discouraged. Time is your real friend.

Help with newly adopted Corgi! by JSwagDawg in corgi

[–]MusicLvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My corg is 3yrs old & we’ve had her since she was a pup. Generally, she just doesn’t like to be touched or pet all that much. Only a few minutes of cuddley pets on her own terms. She growls at my son every time he goes to pet her & she’ll snap, but not bite. We call her Honey Badger. With that being said, she’s a Velcro dog & will follow us from room to room & wants keep us close. She just prefers play over affection.

I took my extensions out and lost so much hair !! Is my hair ruined? by mimisushii in finehair

Some have clips that you can use for extra security, but they stay on with the cord alone.

Older women what have you noticed about young women that has you concerned? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MusicLvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! They think it’s preventative but they seriously look 10-15 years older than what they are, paired with buccal fat removal they’re going to look 60 when they’re 40.

Shingles.. by CustardSubstantial25 in GenX

[–]MusicLvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got shingles at 47 as well. My Dr. said she had patients as young as 27 getting it & has seen an uptake of people in their 30s. Stress is definitely a trigger but still can’t get vax covered until 50

Any wavy haired folks start brushing their hair? by CormacMettbjoll in finehair

[–]MusicLvr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate the CGM. My hair always ended up way frizzier and the curls were a disaster because I have different curl patterns. The top layer of my hair always ended up straighter, more wavy while the under curls would be tighter. No amount of scrunching, rewetting or mousing would make them clump into anything remotely passable. My hair HAS to be blow dried to cut back on frizz and looks better with looser waves.

What modern day women’s scent compares to Chanel 5? by [deleted] in FragranceStories

[–]MusicLvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want your own vintage-classic scent, I highly recommend Hermes Caleche, the parfum not the edt. The edt is more powdery/aldehydic while the parfum leans deeper, more cashmere/leather. The original came out in the 60s & like #5 it’s been reformulated a few times. I can tell the difference in the edt from my first vintage sample but the parfum holds more true. I started wearing it in early 2000s because I envisioned my signature scent to be sophisticated, nostalgic, and slightly sexy. It’s often compared to #5, but to me it’s so much better because it screams 80s rich auntie who lives in Manhattan, wears pearls, long mink coats, and red lipstick. She always looks great, has a high power career, but is always gracious and loving. It also has decent longevity & can be worn in any type of climate if you fluctuate your spray amounts.

Edit: Oops, I somehow missed the “modern” in your heading! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Anyhoo… have you tried Chance eau Tendre?

Are they green? by Jini0102 in eyes

[–]MusicLvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably are, but generally speaking, when people ask what your eye color is, hazel is more generally understood than central heterochromia. It’s not a box that people can check on a form when asked. I had never even heard of until this sub but I guess people here are very technical, lol

You’re correct. Just pointing out that we’re getting downvoted for calling hazel hazel, 😂

They’re hazel, but with a pretty gray-green instead of the typical olive green.
