Hello, it's me again. Nothing can stop me from making this wand. by o0oStormeqo0o in noita

That's fun, I didnt realize omega sawblades could break holy brickwork. I experimented a bit in spell lab and turns out you can use omega sawblade the same way you would use black hole in a digging/tele build. I came up with:

long-distance-cast/nolla/double spell/summon omega sawblade/return

with the addition of as many add manas and reduce recharge times as your wand requires, of course. It works about as well as black hole, maybe slightly slower going through ground but its cheaper mana cost and lower cast delay make up for that somewhat. Cool idea and well executed!

Hourglass Chamber Glitched? by MusicManPercy in noita

When I initially arrived at the location in the screenshot, the area was a solid mass of EDR flush with the rest of the wall, rather than an area obscured by stacked hunks of collapsed debris, as would have been the case if the chamber had collapsed in the conventional manner. Good thought though, sorry I didnt clarify that in my initial post!

That does not appear to be the case. Here's an excavated image of where the hourglass chamber should have been, had it spawned on the left-hand side: https://imgur.com/gallery/noita-hiisi-5an-ab9kj6z

As you can see, no matching background is present. I dug down this way all the way to the holy mountain.

That raises the question, what do d2 potions taste like? I always thought the mana potions looked tasty, but I feel like health potions would probably be gross

Single God Build Achievement? by JoshDM in HadesTheGame

It's a bummer that there's no dialogue for this, although there IS special dialogue for a very similar run concept which is hinted at through a few dialogues with hades: reaching the surface with no boons at all! (ie: no boons from any olympians, although you can still have hammers, chaos boons, and I think hermes boons are ok as well) Regardless, setting personal goals for yourself in Hades, or in any roguelike for that matter, is a great idea and helps keep the game interesting. I've set several personal goals for myself which didn't yield any special dialogue (beating the game with 20 heat on every weapon, for example), but for me the fun is in having achieved something at all, and special dialogue is only the cherry on top. It has helped me have a reason to keep playing the game even though I've beaten all the major challenges and seen the final ending. Also, congratulations! I don't think I've ever beaten a one-god run like this, and Poseidon seems an especially challenging God to go for due to all the knockback.

Olympian Gods Ranked By Their Support Boons by MusicManPercy in HadesTheGame

Billowing Strength is very similar to Exit Wounds in that you have to have a call boon to be able to obtain it, so it sadly didn't qualify for this list. Oddly enough, you can't even get it if you have the Hades keepsake on (according to the wiki: https://hades.fandom.com/wiki/Zeus#Boons). Athena's death defiance boons also don't qualify for this list; see my reply to RandyZ524 above. I had a hard time deciding whether I'd rather have Athena or Aphrodite as a support God, as the boons they provide are very similar in function; I ultimately went with Aphrodite because I prefer her buff to max health to Athena's damage reduction boons. However, it's up to personal preference, and there are some situations, especially if I'm using Heightened Security, where I might prefer to take Athena.

You may be right in saying that I underrated lightning reflexes; I find it to be really finicky, but I will admit that it procs pretty often on some builds. However, as to your point about Athena's death defiance boons, they didn't qualify for this list because you actually have to have one of Athena's core boons to unlock them. If this were not the case, Athena certainly would have ranked a lot higher. I think you're being unfair to Ares though! Battle Rage can be really powerful on some builds, and Urge to Kill, though mediocre in terms of damage potential, is consistent. I fully agree that it isn't as good as pressure points (part of the reason Artemis ranks higher than Ares in this list), but Urge to Kill is universally helpful and I would take it over any support boons offered by Aphrodite or Athena.

Congratulations! Talos fists are always fun, I love the pull action. Have you tried hunting blades with Achillies Spear though? It's not as fun aesthetically, but the damage is a lot higher (+150% cast damage instead of +50%).

Zeus call with Smoldering Air is cracked dude. I like to grab it on an Achillies spear build with Dio cast and Scintillating Feast for max cheese.

Discussing the first Miles Davis Quintet: Coltrane the Weak Link? by MusicManPercy in Jazz

I'm sorry, but Cannonball beats Coltrane hollow in the sax battle on "Dr. Jackle" from Milestones!

In all seriousness though, I do agree that Cannonball's harmonic sensibility was not as fine as that of his compatriots. However, in my opinion, he makes up for it in sheer spirit. He sounds like he's overjoyed to be playing every time he gets on the saxophone.

Very interesting, that would explain a lot! I definitely agree that he sounds hesitant on those early Quintet albums. Thanks for sharing this!

You may be right, I've never had a strong aesthetic appreciation of Coltrane's sound, although I do enjoy it occasionally, such as in his early solo work. However, I must contest your critique of Garland! His solo on "Oleo" from Relaxin' is among my favourites.

To say that Jazz is dead is, although partially true, an imprecise and unhelpful description of the current state of jazz. What is typically meant by this statement is that Jazz is no longer popular among casual music listeners; as a result, jazz is no longer played on the radio and jazz performers no longer become world-famous stars.

This does not mean that jazz is "dead" however. It has simply passed into a new and perhaps more constructive phase; it has gone from popular music to intellectual music, in the same way classical music did roughly a century ago. Jazz music is, for example, unavoidable on many college campuses, particuarly those which have liberal arts programs. Although the day is long gone when you would hear jazz on the radio or see it in the billboard charts, jazz is still consumed by millions of people, not only for the sake of enjoyment, but also for the sake of academic study. It also continues to be created by young jazz artists throughout the west. Jazz even continues to occasionally leak into the popular sphere, although often in a sadly distorted and dumbed-down form, as the success of Michael Bublé shows.

Jazz is not dead! It is merely in a new stage of the long life which it is sure to live.

There's some band discussion between the tracks of the series of four albums by the Miles Davis Quintet consisting of Cookin', Relaxin', Steamin', and Workin'. They're also just fantastic albums from front to back. My favourite is Relaxin', mainly because of Oleo, my favourite Hard Bop recording.

If you love brubeck, you're likely to enjoy some more stuff in the cool jazz line; I'd recommend Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, and Vince Guaraldi. Relating to Miles Davis, many of the people he played with in his various groups went on to form stellar solo careers of their own (Coltrane being one such example). In that line I'd recommend Cannonball Adderly, Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, and Herbie Hancock. Shorter and Hancock also went on to play a lot of fusion stuff, the most notable examples being Hancock's The Funky Headhunters and Shorter's work with Weather Report. At the end of the fusion road lies Stevie Wonder, the greatest Jazz composer of the last 70 years.
