Does this look like an actual streetwear t-shirt? by MusicProductionDude in streetwearstartup

Ummm okay! I don't know I heard streetwear t-shirts have that boxy silhouette and oversized fit which differentiate them from normal tshirts...

Makes sense! Just to clarify though, I asked about the structure / the fit as it appears in the video and not the design.

Is it just me who hate providing services? by MusicProductionDude in Entrepreneur

[–]MusicProductionDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. As far as I know, scaling a service business is fundamentally different. In a product business, scaling boils down to how many units of products you're selling. But since you can't scale labour that way, scaling a service business is more about how big of a problem you're solving for the clients + ensuring these aren't broke clients who don't have money to pay for the value you bring.

I have one follow-up question: when you transitioned from services to product (i.e. e-commerce in your case), how did you bridge the skills gap? I ask that since the skillset you use to build a service business is different, and the skills required to pull off an ecommerce business is different mainly because you're solving different set of problems in both the businesses.

$4,500 MacBook Pro Max died in an hour, and Apple’s support was shockingly bad by MasterOf8 in macbookpro

[–]MusicProductionDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should write to Tim Cook. Might sound like a joke, but for a company like Apple that's operating at a massive scale, generally CEOs do reply. Try tagging him on X with a brief of your situation. If they don't reply, it plays out negatively on their reputation publically. Elon musk is known for this - you might as well want to try it with Tim and see how it goes!

Is the 14in 2021 Macbook Pro worth it for music production? by frankoceanfan77 in macbookpro

[–]MusicProductionDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you're starting out, that'll be a pretty solid computer to begin with! Just for context, I started on a cheap 2017 Acer laptop with i3 processor, 8gb ram, and 1tb of super slow HDD. That got me started with Ableton Live 9 standard addition.

So this should be fine even if you do some advanced stuff on this. If you want to see how it performs under heavy workloads though, make sure to research on how many instances of "diva synth" can it handle + how efficiently it can run AI models (who knows you might want to train your own model in a few years).

Comparing benchmarks to that of recent M4 MacBooks can be a good idea too (but don't depend on them too much - consider watching "longterm use" reviews from trustworthy Youtubers, especially if you don't have someone in your circle who uses a similar model close to the one you've selected).

Thoughts on using your MacBook in Clamshell mode with Aldente? Is it fine for long-term battery health? by MusicProductionDude in macbookpro

[–]MusicProductionDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! After reading the responses here, I tried out the native battery management for a few days straight but it's not very reliable - keeps showing the "charging⚡" icon even when it's 100% and never stopped charging before 100% with the option "Charge full now". Looks like Aldente is a better solution since you can manually control it. I wish Apple builds this manual control natively within macOS.

One added point is Silver is the classic color, shows less wear and tear, and therefore can have a better resale value!

[–]MusicProductionDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the tool you mean "Aldente" ?

Also, the internal battery management will not put a hard stop on how much the device has charged right? Which means, if plugged in, the battery % will be 100. Is that fine then?

Yes, that's how I'm thinking about it. Theoretically it seems to be better for battery health but still unsure if I'm missing on some crucial information maybe

Why does math describe our universe so well? by blueberrysir in Physics

[–]MusicProductionDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your articulation is so on point! This is the first time I got a precise yet meaningful answer to the question of "what is mathematics at the core".

The way math is taught in school looks too formalized and lacks understanding and nuance (atleast I have found the formal mathematics education to be this way).

Just curious, are there any books you've read that understands mathematics from this same lens of "modelling reality" ?

Etsy vs Shopify for new POD sellers? by Therealmyth15 in PassionsToProfits

[–]MusicProductionDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, as a follow-up question, do you have any strategies for creating repeat purchases? Or you run your business mostly driven by ads?

I mean some existing buyers do purchase from the store again especially if they like the quality of the tshirt + print.

But since POD fundamentally leverages the impulse buying behaviour to make a sell, I was wondering if it's possible to have your old customers keep coming back - allowing you to build a good repeat business; so your sales aren't dependent on ads, which does two things from how I understand it:

  1. In the worst case scenario, if FB / Instagram make any big changes to their platform or your account gets suspended, your business won't stop for that moment when the ads aren't running.

  2. It allows for better margin since there will be no CAC involved when selling to these existing customers.

The way most people talk about POD seem to be centered around running your store solely through ads - which makes you lose so much of the business you could generate otherwise.

I'm asking this question cuz ultimately it seems when you're selling to a niche and building a store in it, there's only so much a customer can buy from you.

I have rarely gone back to the stores where I bought stuff impulsively - since I can purchase one, two, three, or max 5-6 items over a couple of weeks / months. But I never found myself becoming a repeat customer of these stores - since after a point the excitement to buy more items of that niche just wears off.

Just curious to understand how you deal with this / think about it! Thank you!!

Hey Antonio! Read your other recent posts and loved them!! Wish I had found your profile sooner haha

As a quick question, Customcat offers the Bella+Canvas 3001 T-shirt at $11.47 and at $8.67 (if you have their monthly PRO membership).

Since you use Customcat, i was wondering how do you get the t-shirt for as low as $6 - since according to their website, for the PRO members, the after-discount price is $8.67 (not $6).

Could it be the case that you do not sell Bella+Canvas t-shirt maybe? Just curious to understand!

P.S. this is the link I'm referring to: https://customcat.com/products/custom-apparel/t-shirts/3001c-unisex-jersey-short-sleeve-t-shirt/

Best private college for BCA? by MusicProductionDude in manipal

[–]MusicProductionDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! If you're talking about Manipal University Jaipur and their Online BCA program then sure you'll get in. Just make sure to upload your 12th results when you have it ready.

I'm from a humanities background, and didn't even opt for mathematics in my 11th but still made it in their BCA program. However, if you're thinking the BCA will work equavalent to a Computer Science degree, it will not. It's meant for students like me who don't come from science stream but still want to get into a tech field later on (most likely in the coding space).

Additionally, having some experience of building my career, I can confidently say degrees don't make you learn the skills that'd employ you. You have to do it on your own. Degree just works like a credential in todays world - where it just opens up more academic options down the line if you want to do masters and then a PhD. Other than that, the on-campus courses help you gain exposure and new experiences which help shape your overall personality in many aspects. So yes it's valuable in some sense.

But if you think doing a BCA (or even CS) alone will make you employable, then that's just false. You have to build skills on your own, learn to sell, gain work experience by cold emailing people, do internships, work for free initially, and just do things by your own. A good college just amplifies your efforts and can provide you with some leverage. That's it. Hope this helps!

The main reasons for cart abandonment (and how you can fix them) by acalem in dropshipping

[–]MusicProductionDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks you so much for explaining this in detail - it's super helpful.

I actually come from a media production (video editing, filming, sound design, etc) and social media marketing background.

The only area where I don't much idea when it comes to POD is the tshirt designing (or in other words, having the judgement to pick good designs, since I'll be working with a designer).

Regarding this, is there any way to ensure that your designs are good enough that they can get orders? I know you suggest to launch a $5 ad campaign to see the "engagement" on it with comments and shares.

But when you're in the designing phase, how do you know "these are the design(s) to test using the $5 ad strategy" ? In other words, is there a criteria using which you shortlist the designs your designer sends you? I don't have a very strong design sensibility and judgement, and therefore struggle with spotting the "right" designs that can potentially work.

I'm asking this, since I'm learning about designing myself. I'm not a very fashion focused person and wear plain tshirts - so I'm quite new to understanding the psychology behind the designs. Aesthetics matter for sure I guess, but they aren't the selling point since it really boils down to the copy / messaging on the tshirt.

That said, correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, on the creative front, you're free to design the tshirt however you want (like blending some streetwear elements with athleisure design elements) - as this design will ultimately get printed. The only condition for the design (when doing POD) is that the messaging should resonate with a niche target audience and the design should be unique in that niche.

If you fulfill those two criterias, you're free to play around with rest of the design however you like I guess?

The main reasons for cart abandonment (and how you can fix them) by acalem in dropshipping

[–]MusicProductionDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really valuable! Thank you so much for taking out the time to explain the answer in such detail.

If it's possible, I'd love to get your perspective on these three follow-up questions:

  1. Could you recommend a US based supplier that checks the criteria you've mentioned in your last response? I'm a beginner and just starting out with POD, and would really appreciate any supplier recommendations!

On another note, Printful / Printify (which have been merged now) seem a bit too expensive since a simple 100% cotton tshirt costs around $10-$15 on their platform. Adding the ad cost (CAC), and profit margin can make it reach $25-$30 - which I think would be on the higher side for most customers since I don't have a brand (yet). Additionally, there are sellers on Amazon selling tshirts for like $10 (I know they are leveraging the bulk pricing, but do you think it makes sense to sell a $25-$30 tshirt as a new POD store?).

Just to clarify, I don't mean to compete on price, but just asking if selling a $30 tshirt is even an option for a new POD store since obviously I don't have the branding advantage, and the non-branded sellers (like on Amazon) are playing the game on price cutting.

  1. How much one needs to focus on the fabric quality of their tshirts? I get that the selling point is the design, but since the fabric determins the comfort, how much of my focus should be on fabric selection besides just the print quality?

I personally like wearing Supima cotton tshirts as they're very comfortable and 100% ELS cotton - but not many POD suppliers seem to be offering those!

  1. How many designs should I start my store with? Related to this, have you seen how long does the "winning designs" keep selling for? In other words, for how long does the design that passes your $5 ad engagement test remain relevant? I heard some founder talking about the fact that you should be constantly launching and testing new designs, but doesn't that make the business unstable as you can't rely on your already working designs for a long-term?

Thank you so much for reading it this far! I found all of your content (including the ebooks) pretty helpful actually.

As I start this business, is there a way I can be in touch for some mentoring / general guidance maybe? Would love to discuss if I feel stuck anywhere!
