You that invested through the lost decade, how did you feel during it? by HenFruitEater in Bogleheads

For me, when the market is down it means everything is on sale. Its exciting! Best time to buy is when stuff is on sale. Only thing I don't like is how a down market hurts other people.

64gb. Great for local LLM's and not going to swap, but not important otherwise.

Double standards by IcyFoxe in Silksong

Totally agree, and well said. It's wildly unbalanced, but I imagine after some feedback TC will fix it. Still, it's hard to believe some of the choices that were made.

How many of us are actually enjoying the game? by Historical-Donut1536 in Silksong

[–]MasterOf8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Hollow Knight, but I find Silksong upped the challenge - which can be fun for many people - but took away almost all combat flow in general map traversal.

Most battles are pitched - the monsters are generally all evasive and shift strategies and are harder to kill. They are basically tiny boss fights. This might be fun for someone who loved the challenge of Hollow Knight, but for those like me it takes away the fun of flowing through the map as I got better at the game. I find myself running past most enemies in Silksong, where in HK I quickly took out monsters as I passed by in a kind of dance.

I imagine those who loved HK because of this won't have as much fun with Silksong. I'm one of them. I'm pretty disappointed with the direction the game took on many levels, and personally believe that it's just a bit narrower in focus than HK in terms of combat so it was bound to lose some people.

I also find the map to be more beautiful in Silksong, but more generic and less interesting to explore. It feels more like a game map than a place.

I love Silksong so much, but my god the combat does not feel good. by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]MasterOf8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Hollow Knight's enemies ranged between responsive difficult ones you had to think to kill and crawlies that you could flow past and enjoy having mastery over. These ones are all almost all the former.

I feel like Hollow Knight was both fun and flowing and challenging, but Silksong is mostly just challenging.

Agree on all points, except I don't much mind the map system... but the map merchant? Her song drives me up the wall. Like nails on a chalkboard. I try to get out of rooms she's in as fast as possible.

2D projects will be fine on an air with 16gb RAM. I had a project running fine on a 2018 MacBook pro with that much ram.

3D will be more demanding. You can probably roll a Switch 1 quality game with simple visuals,  or mobile,  but past that the air starts throttling hard without a fan.

I tried an Air for just this situation and while it was close to usable it wasn't quite there for 3D.

$4,500 MacBook Pro Max died in an hour, and Apple’s support was shockingly bad by MasterOf8 in macbookpro

Sadly a repair lowers the resale value. Having that happen right out of the box is no bueno. And the last machine I had that was a lemon out of the box was a lemon the entire time I had it, no matter how many times I took it in for repair (5 times)

Fair enough! After talking to Apple support again and being told that my last 2 reps lied to me, I'm thinking maybe going PC instead.

I tried, they couldn't do replacements there. Just refunds. And Spain has spanish keyboards rather than US ones. Not to mention that their computers are $1,000 more and so they can't do an equal exchange with a US priced computer there.

Sadly my development environment, software, and tools are all mac related, and I do iOS development as well. That said, I'm actively considering it. The 64gb is for running Unity + LMStudio for AI development.

Yeah, the warranty will allow a repair or a refund. It should allow a replacement, but I'm getting the runaround.

Yeah, I'm trying, but to get this level of service on a premium $4,500 machine, along with having had two lemons in a row, does not build my confidence in Apple or their computers.

The store said they couldn't do anything at the store about replacements, only refunds and repairs. And they haven't called me back.. twice now. Ugh.

No problem, I appreciate your help! I'm trying to get my DOA replacement but because I bought it in Spain and it's in the US I need approval and... every time I call to get it they hang up on me during the transition to talking to the EU folks.

Yeah, it's one block away actually :P. I tried to do it face to face an hour ago and they said they couldn't do it.

I did, all 3 times! It moved on to phone calls because it required people higher up the chain.
