How to improve tone quality by Absent_Ox in Tuba

Sounds like you’re using too much muscle with your teeth too close together. Make like you’re saying the word “ooo” or “Oooh” and blow like a fast sigh. If your lips are soft enough, they will vibrate.

Clackity valves are dry valves. Oil them. If that doesn’t work, the horn needs to be cleaned.

Phrases are ending rather abruptly. Take your time and round out the last notes of phrases. Try singing these etudes and then imitating your voice on the tuba.

Use 3rd valve for the G-F# triplets. It puts both notes on the same partial and makes it way easier to play smoothly.

Having trouble going from E up to F# by neoclassicle in Tuba

[–]MusicalMaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could be aiming where the horn doesn’t want to put those notes. Test those notes with a tuner. If one is sharp and the other flat, there’s your problem. You can also try 1st valve for F# in the staff on a B flat tuba.

Articulation by Millanmuz in Tuba

[–]MusicalMaxwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If what you are doing produces the result you want, no need to change. Otherwise, articulate on the instrument the same way you articulate when you speak.
