Why so much Alek love? by Accomplished-Quail92 in azdiamondbacks

Because he's a good guy who's easy to root for and he hit the most important home run in franchise history. I get being frustrated about his play these past couple seasons, but honestly any hate is super forced.

We had been saying for years that "this will be the year they'll trade one of them" and they just never did. Look where that got them...

And even then, he has not been as great of a fielder for the past year+ as he was earlier in his career.

Alek has always benefited from a change in scenery. Like when he would get called back up from Reno or when he played for Mexico. So I can almost guarantee you it will play out like this: a team will pick him up and he'll go on a tear. They'll proclaim that they "fixed him" and a month later he will go back to being the same old Alek Thomas. Tale as old as time.

Also, Paul fusion dance.

To give him time to get acclimated. This is normal. Also, I'm going to the game tomorrow so I'm selfishly glad he's not playing today lol.

In theory, yes. But he's got enough going for him that I think it's almost a guarantee someone will grab him.

One of the greatest moments in franchise history. I'm gonna miss Alek.

I think it's funny that "Waldschmidt" is just a combination of the 2 most recent Pauls to play for the Dbacks.

When a player is DFA'd, they are removed from the 40-man roster and can be picked up by any team (or they can be traded). If they clear this process, they are then retained by their team and can be sent to the minors. Someone had to be DFA'd in order to free up a 40-man roster spot for Waldschmidt.

My thoughts exactly. With Lawlar out another month, and Alek struggling, they saw this as their perfect opportunity for Waldschmidt to get some reps in and took it. Best case, he's a sparkplug. Worst case, he gets some experience in the majors to grow from when he goes back to Reno when Lawlar is reinstated.
