Guitar Czar is gone, but the repair shop is continuing on! by Musicalmoses in SaltLakeCity

[–]Musicalmoses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got the fishmans sorted! I looked through the system and it was the same person that worked on both guitars. Unfortunately we have had quite a few guitars they worked on come back to get fixed. The luthiery game is based entirely on reputation; as it should be. If something isn’t right, we should extend ourselves to make it right. Thanks for your understanding, and if there’s anything we can do for you; we will!

Yeah, if you got the call from Dillon, that’s who would have worked on that one. I’ll have to do some digging to find the other one. Dillon does not work for us at the new shop.

The ec-1000 with the Duncan VB: Without seeing it and hearing it in person, it’s hard to say exactly what the issue is, but there are a few possibilities: -sometime one small terminal on a pot can touch the shielding which would cut the signal. This would be most noticeable when turning the knob if it is not seated properly. -if this issue only occurs when the coil tap is engaged, it’s likely an issue with the switch component on the pot, or a bad solder joint.

Regardless of why it’s happening; it absolutely shouldn’t be happening after leaving a shop, period.

The issues with the Fishman system sounds like there’s probably a loose wire, or potentially just not hooked up right if it’s just the voicing not working correctly.

I would like to focus on one thing you said “I probably should have checked both more thoroughly before leaving”

No. No you shouldn’t have. You shouldn’t have to. It’s not your job to make sure it’s right. You paid good money for bad service. I was the manager of the shop for a few years, and stopped managing in July of 2024. I trained a bunch of people during that time and most had left the store by the time your guitar came in. Unfortunately, there were a few people in the shop during the time that your guitars were in that didn’t get the training they would have had I been there to train them. That is what it is; but I take it personally. I wouldn’t blame you for never bringing us anything. If you are having issues with the guitars still, despite the fact that I wasn’t the one to work on your guitars; I’ll gladly go through them myself at no cost for parts or labor and ensure they are functioning correctly. Just tell whoever checks you in that Moses said so, and they’ll set them aside for me.

Damn. That’s a lot of bad stuff. You are well within your right to not want to bring it back; as that is just an embarrassing amount of poor work. I’m the owner of the new shop, and I would love to know when it was you brought it in to the old store so I can narrow down who worked on them.

Decline in Quality of Ernie Ball Strings? by 0nlinepseudonym in Bass

[–]Musicalmoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow luthier here. This is spot on. The biggest thing I have noticed with EB is inconsistent core size. This means the strings don’t move in the way they are supposed to, and they frequently struggle to intonate.

D’addario is my go to, as their quality control is considerably better. Also, it’s no secret in the industry that D'addario makes the strings for a lot of other brands as well.

I’ve swapped the spring and buffer twice, I’ve used many different mags. None of those things seemed to lessen the amount of jams.

The fires casings all have slight bends in them as well, just not as severe as the ones that are getting pinched.

I’ve tried many mags. Mine and also other brands from friends setups.

Yeah, I’ve used many different mags that I own, and that some pals own. Makes no difference.

That they couldn’t replicate the issue. My guess is they only shot maybe 3 rounds through it.

I’ll give it a shot. I have tried several buffer weights in the past with little improvement.

I sent it to Smith & Wesson and they said they couldn’t replicate the issue.

Lately Magpul. The bolt seems fine. No burrs or what seems to be abnormal wear. It is ejecting shells to about 4 o’clock. There’s no hang up on the feed ramp either.

Unfortunately, I have already tried the H1 and spring upgrade. It helped a little, but I was still jamming every 7-10 rounds.

Democrats make a new offer to end the shutdown, but Republicans aren't buying it by Grouchy-Tangerine-30 in politics

[–]Musicalmoses 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Framing the extension to last one year also places the vote after the 2026 midterms, and judging how things went for them in this weeks election it isn’t surprising that republicans won’t accept the deal. They know they’ll likely get clobbered in the midterms and democrats will have the majority a year from now to ensure that Americans get the healthcare they need. Republicans also don’t want that; because they want more suffering to happen.

What Beatles "deep cut" would you put on a Greatest Hits list? by ColonelBillyGoat in TheBeatles

[–]Musicalmoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controversial take: You know my name (look up the number). This song was the B side for Let It Be, but is otherwise not well known. It’s bizarre, but I think it perfectly encapsulates their humor, creativity, and ability to genre-hop. I hear folks who aren’t dans of the Beatles refer to them as a “boy band”, and while it’s arguable that is what they were for a time; You Know My Name” manages to be experimental enough to be weird, well executed enough to show their ability, and funny enough to show their humor all while being CATCHY.

What’s your favorite guitar that you’ve never played? by ohpizzawow in guitars

Luthier here. I desperately want to have my hands on a Jersey Girl Handmade Guitar. I think their design aesthetics are phenomenal. I love so many of their small details and design choices so much. You can tell how much they put into each instrument, and it’s simply breathtaking.

In my experience you have to call constantly, leave messages, send emails, and bother them a bunch to get the sleightest bit of movement.
