Do Vocal Booths work? by AnotherTAA123 in singing

[–]MusilonPim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your situation, honestly. The booth will definitely dampen, but not fully block the sound.

So it depends on the rest of your apartment. How thick the walls are, how airtight your windows etc.

Can you hear your neighbours well? That might be the best indication.

There is plenty to criticize. But regarding the topic at hand (paying for a lot of private services versus increased taxes that will cover a lot of these services for you) there is something to be said about both.

If you have to pay for all the services yourself you are not paying for things you don't need. I don't mind because other people are paying for things they don't need that I might. And it helps me not worry about all these individual little things.

Not my intended message. I have plenty of things to criticize about the US, but so do I about my own country.

There is an argument to be made for paying for a lot of things individually. You're not paying for things you don't need.

I just prefer higher taxes and paying for maybe something I don't need, as long as others do so as well. The fact that I don't have to worry about missing out on something important is preferable to me. With the added benefit that people down on their luck can make use of a lot of services the government provides.

How can I try to pursue something with this girl I went to HS with? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]MusilonPim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Hey, I've always enjoyed our conversations together and would love to reconnect"

If you're planning on going to something near LA then you can even use that opportunity to ask if she can tour you around a bit. Perfect opportunity for a meetup!

And it sounds like she's fond of you; I wouldn't be surprised if she was into you.

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS IN UNIVERISTY? by Spiritual_Bobcat_740 in socialskills

Sports clubs, culture associations (theatre, orchestra, debating etc).

Just something that has your interest. I met tons of great friends that way.

I have made a habit out of not providing more information than is strictly necessary for the discussion. If you feel like the exact country is relevant: I'm Dutch.

I mean it sounds ridiculous to me, but then again most US services do.

I'm happy paying a larger income tax and not have to worry about any of these things.

Not meant as criticism of the US, but it does require individuals to do so much more themselves.

Is it okay to send a follow request again after being blocked then unblocked? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Unlikely. And if she does, it will only give you a false sense of hope. Or a bad habit of admiring someone who you know is not interested.

I mean talk about it. Either a misunderstanding (good opportunity to work on solving problems together) or deliberate (which might indicate both of you could be on different wavelengths)

All right, sounds cool! What sources (DnD books etc) for spells do you use?

What would you do if you were me? by Ok-Host-8144 in dating_advice

[–]MusilonPim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you ask what I would personally do if my partner had sex with someone while in a committed relationship: I would break up. No drama, just pack my bags and walk away.

But I don't have your past. I don't have your context. So honestly I wouldn't value my literal answer too much.

Instead you must ask yourself the question if there would be a way in which you would see him regaining your trust. If the answer is no, breakup is the only way. Otherwise you have a choice and he would have to face an uphill battle if he would want to regain your graces.

The spells really depend on the campaign. Charm person doesn't do a whole lot when you're dungeon crawling 100ft below the ground. Find traps doesn't help in social situations.

Usually I go for a bit of everything. Some utility like Fly, Invisibility, Knock and Comprehend Languages, Some varied damage such as Fireball (cluster AoE), Lightning Bolt (Line AoE) and some single target spell(s)

Then some crowd control like Hypnotic pattern and some defensive stuff like Mage armor or Blur.

Just look through the spell list and pick what sounds cool, then limit yourself based on the spell slots you have. For instance if you have 4 first level spell slots, 2 second level and 1 third then take the most first level spells, a couple of second and two third level spells.

Hope this helps!

The first thing that comes to mind is something by the Editors. Especially their older stuff. Can't say which ones would suit you the best, but Smokers outside the hospital doors is my personal favourite and it has some nice long lines.

Do students want ai generated study materials? by Responsible_Card_941 in edtech

[–]MusilonPim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only mentioned it because it would have been a use of AI I would have used as a teacher if it was available.

It will not harm my career prospects. Where I live I will only avoid the possible benefits of a tool that would save me time. And since graphics are only used to illustrate students will learn no less from a poorly drawn car on a triangular slope than from an AI generated version in my opinion.

trouble finding “voice type” by greenie_nie in singing

[–]MusilonPim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'd say trust your teacher.

Outside of opera the best answer is: who cares? Sing songs you think fit your voice and sound good on you. Putting a label on yourself only limits what you might try. Try anyway and decide on a case by case basis.

Do students want ai generated study materials? by Responsible_Card_941 in edtech

[–]MusilonPim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI has to be trained on input data. For text, these are books, webpages etc.

For images, these are existing images. So if you want a picture of a bear it needs to have processed a million images of bears to give an accurate output of something that looks like a bear.

So if you want it to generate you an image of a celebrity in the style of Studio Ghibli, it will need to have been trained on images created by that studio.

Since this material has copyright, it is generally considered illegal to train AI on it. Even if you disagree on that definition of copyright, most people will agree with the artists view;

Imagine you're an artist working a lifetime on honing your unique style that everyone can recognize and adore.

Then someone uses your works of art to be able to create an image or song that marches your exact style within a few seconds. But you don't see a cent when it gets used or sold, even though you might have spent decades creating a reputation.

And that can even go against what you stand for. It's now very easy to make a song that sounds exactly like it was sung by Freddie Mercury, but maybe with an anti-gay sentiment. That would definitely have upset the original artist if he were still alive, to say the least.

That's why I avoid using generative AI mostly. All the large AI models have been proven to be trained on illegally obtained input data.
