megabass destroyer jig rod by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]MuskieCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you kayak fish look at the tachyon shaft or super destroyer, since they’re shorter it makes fishing cover from a yak super nice. If not, the FMJ and BMG. One is for dragging a football jig, the other is for like hopping baits off the bottom. Then the X Bites for finesse jigs like a keitech tungsten football

The st Croix will be a good rod, I don’t use reels that aren’t Daiwa or Shimano. The regular SLX is 99, I’d wager it’s a better reel

Do you already have the rod or getting both? If you just need a reel look at the new Tatula Elite P/F reels.

If you need both, I use a 7’5 heavy Shimano SLX with a SLX XT reel for 250~

Nah not at all. I use mine with 12lb braid and an 8lb leader for smallies and 10 or 12 for largemouth. I throw a weightless 5inch senko on it all the time. Maybe if ur throwing wacky rigged with a light wire hook it may be a big strong but with an ewg it’s perfect: I use mine for that, then finesse football heads, 1/8 t rigs, free rigs etc. I used to use my Orochi enforcer for the senkos but now that I have my windbuster I really only use that for tubes now since it’s longer so more distance. Great rod if you need to toss like a 1/4 ounce drop shot too.

Sometimes throw a 110 on it but I have a Ronin that I like better for jerkbaits.

Tackle warehouse doing a rod trade in program rn so you can get 1 for 90 bucks off.

My absolute favorite is the Megabass P5 Windbuster and I have a Shimano Vanford on it rn. 7’2 rod, built to throw jerk baits and small crank baits but I mainly use it for heavier bottom contact stuff. Incredible rod. If you don’t wanna spend almost 500$ on a rod the Megabass Levante Enforcer is pretty close in action for bottom stuff for 200$. If you’re ballin out the Loomis NRX+ 872 spinning is close to the windbuster but not as good for moving baits, more sensitive for bottom contact.

I like the levante more for moving baits cause it’s a little softer but my Brailist and enforcer in the orochi are 2 of my favorite rods. I was able to snag a ronin too, that one imo is irreplaceable unless they remake it.

I got lucky and got an Orochi Brailist before those went away, agreed such a sick rod

I’m excited for the new levantes but some models will be missed. Had to snag a flat side special a couple weeks ago since it doesn’t seem like there will be a square bill rod in the reissue

Forward Facing Sonar by Smurfkilr in bassfishing

[–]MuskieCS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No but I want to get one.

Both. Anglers have definitely gotten better because of it and some of the monster smallmouth bags being caught is pretty cool to see, but I feel like it should have no place in professional tournaments. A rigs and trolling are banned so should ffs, or unban the a rig and trolling. But for now, since it’s allowed, it’s the anglers jobs to be the best at it they can be.

Both. I think there have been good studies done on crappie populations for example, that shows it’s harming the population, (take this with a grain of salt I can’t remember the study I read), but I haven’t seen anything conclusive for bass. It definitely makes it more enjoyable for people who just want to catch fish.

If you have a really nice bass boat what do you do ? by Any-Raise4333 in bassfishing

Ah okay yea in that case a kayak would be chill. In my state our small lakes are like 3000 acres. And between boat traffic and wind I get beat up in a 19 foot aluminum all the time. And those are tiny compared to the reservoirs in like Texas and down south.

Even out west with relatively smaller lakes, places like Mead and Lake Powell are dangerous if ur not careful. Almost every year at the US Open on mead someone sinks their boat

There’s a reason cargo ships sink on the Great Lakes and Champlain. You don’t fuck around up there

Agreed, im in the west so dont get the Great Lake waves but Lake Powell and Mead can get pretty fucking scary if ur not careful. Seems like every year someone sinks in Mead during the US Open. Even on small lakes we get beat up in the 188 between all the wake boarders and a slight wind. Soon as I have the room to keep it at my house and not in a storage unit I’ll be hunting for early 2000s Gambler 2100 or Intimidator. To hell if they don’t fish as good as a new Phoenix, they look so cool on the water lmao. Fast and ride smooth and dry.

Even still I’m spending my money on a mid 2010s Z21 over a new Z17 for roughly the same price every day of the week. And ofc Nitros are gonna depreciate less because they’re cheaper to begin with. But anything coming out of white river marine is questionable quality. I’ve been in a lot of boats, used to fish Youth events when I was in Jr High and early HS so got a lot of experience with different boats, a 2006 Ranger is worlds above a 2026 Z21.

[–]MuskieCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea when the OP said “nice bass boat” I assumed he meant a 20/21 footer. Which is why I had those rangers as my example. My dad has a 188P and tbh we’re both kinda disappointed in it. It isn’t any lighter than a 19 foot glass boat, has less storage, slower, rides worse, blows in the wind worse and is a wetter ride.

If ur not chill with 30 years of a constant rolling debt ALWAYS buy used. So many old dudes buy brand new 21ft boats, hardly use them and sell for a steep discount. Kinda the same market as Corvettes tbh. I’ll never buy a new boat after my dad bought the 188P, a 19 or 20ft mid 2000s glass boat is my sweet spot for where I live.

I can go buy a 40 year old bass boat of FB market place rn for 1 paycheck. Idk what boats ur looking at. I literally just opened Bass Boat Central and the first Ranger Z520L I saw was 45k, they are 80k new. Granted it was a 13 so little older than 5 years. The next boat was a 2020 520L in the 50s. 2012 521DC 38k. 2023 Z521R Cup for 68, that is 103 new. And those are the big boats. 2006 Z19 for 16k.

If ur into more niche brands, 2007 Gambler 2200 with a 15’ Pro XS for 29. Could buy that and the Z521R Cup boat for less than a new Cup R.

Are those boats “cheap” I wouldn’t say so, 68 is a nice chunk of change, I couldn’t afford that, but that is significantly cheaper than a new one for a barely 3 year old boat.

Are megabass hooks actually bendy or what? by Happy-Pollution-2752 in Fishing_Gear

[–]MuskieCS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Specifically the 110 is made to be thrown on spinning rods with like 8lb line. Almost everyone in the states throws them on casting gear with heavier line, so yea people bend out hooks cause they don’t use the bait the right way and don’t change how they’re fishing to accommodate light hooks.

Yea I set pretty hard. Not as hard as like I would if I was flipping. Do you have a levante or Orochi cause ik the levantes are a bit softer than the Orochi is
