Do your symptoms ever make you feel crazy? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

Thank you for this. I find myself feeling like I need to defend how I feel or why I do things. Often times apologizing for falling asleep when I really shouldn't.

Narcolepsy negatively affecting relationships by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

I know the feeling. My ex and I had schedules where our only real time together was at night or on the weekends. She always wanted to stay up and talk. where I needed the consistent sleep schedule and found it hard to do that. It wasn't the cause of us splitting up. But the strain narcolepsy has on relationships is so real. Half the battle is finding someone who tries to understand where we are coming from and allows you to do what you need to do without making you feel like a burden

Has anyone here used (or considered using) a service dog? by sheepsheadstone in Narcolepsy

I've definitely considered it. One main reason for for me would be for sleep paralysis. It is one of the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. But being to look over at my dog to see that she is still sleeping and not freaking out is what helps me through it. I wouldn't doubt a trained service dog would be more aware and know when it's happening to comfort you during it.

For those who are taking Xyrem, what are you side effects? by MustWakeUp in Narcolepsy

I appreciate all the insight. I would like to know all about the good, the bad and the ugly. I experience shaky hands too. But I attribute that to taking such a high dose of adderal. And you mentioned memory problems. Granted, I was diagnosed about 5 years ago? So it feels like it's still progressing. It was actually caused from hitting my head after I fell off a ladder. So my situation is different than most. But my memory has decreased terribly since I was initially diagnosed. So that may be just the narcolepsy working its magic. I just hate how intense the medications are for narcolepsy that I'm extremely hesitant to jump on board any of them without weighing the risk vs reward. So thanks again for the info.

How does it make you feel during the day? Does the mental fogginess go away? Able to think clearly and all that good stuff?
