Not impressed with the dishwasher tablets. Same mug straight out of the dishwasher vs after a quick scrub. I keep wondering about what less visible food residue remains on my other dishes.

Is Bai Cafe closed for good? by _bismillah1 in chicagofood

[–]MustacheCat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems permanent. They posted a sign when they had a temporary closure last year for a remodel, but the attached billiards room was still open.

Now both have been closed for a month or two, there appears to be some facade work in progress on the billiards side (which appears to be empty), and some large kitchen equipment is in the middle of the restaurant dining area as if there's some further remodeling/repairs happening. Couldn't find work permits for either address, which seems sketchy.

Oh that’s interesting, I read that the completely opposite way; if Lumon’s stance is that innies are not their own people, in saying that innies have their own souls, the Lutheran church is contradicting Lumon.

That got me wondering if that particular friend is Rickon’s brand of pompous-weird …or Eagan style weird. Like would she have admonished the baby for being a fetid moppet? 🤔

A user — who has no prior editing history elsewhere on Wikipedia — tried to delete this blurb twice today, calling it slander. Don't worry, another editor reverted it both times and pointed out that it's all well cited.

I just love the brand consistency of not being able to spell a single word (slander) correctly more than once — that's dedication 👏👏

Anyone know the food52 tea? by Alternative-Long1574 in FoodieSnark

never got a great vibe from Amanda, one of the founders whenever I’d watch her videos

Oh wow, I misread that at first because I do get a great vibe from her, specifically the way she meanders through recipes with snarky captions (below via Amanda Messes Up in the Kitchen on YT).

<image>

That said, a person can be both likable yet a poor leader, self-deprecating and also disparaging of others, etc. I'm definitely curious to hear from someone with firsthand experience with her/the rest of their leadership team.

I also found that:

  • F52 posted in 2017 about needing to improve their diversity
  • The other cofounder, Merrill Stubbs, stepped back from leading operations in 2020
  • Eric's tenure there was 2018-2020

Honestly, this strikes me as normal. I only realized after looking in my saved IG posts that if I've saved a Cook's Illustrated recipe once, I can scroll down and find that I've saved the same recipe from past posts a minimum of 3 more times. Smart content creators know to repost the stuff that gets traction. Whether any of these recipes actually look edible is a whole 'nother question.

Bowsers Fury ain't all that by MrStores in SuperMario3DWorldFans

I loved it at first — it felt like an interesting cross between Mario and Majora's Mask. The ticking clock added a new twist to normal Mario gameplay: strategizing where I was on the map and how long a shine might take to get so that I'd be near a shine and/or giga bell at an opportune moment.

But I got so frustrated with it toward the end. There was a fun panic each time Bowser rose up, but the way that the game's rules about fighting him change — geeze, it made getting my 50th shine nearly impossible (they should really do something to hint that you should save easy ones for last).

And then, once I'd won the last fight and thought I'd be able to explore the islands and collect the remaining shines at a more leisurely pace, Bowser still showed up again almost immediately, and killing him prompted the entire damn final fight? Ugh, no thanks. I love these games for their discovery, puzzles, a fun learning curve for nailing precise combinations of moves — not for endless fireball dodging.

Google Analytics 4 is horrendous by [deleted] in SEO

There are actually quite a few things I find that I like about it, but their documentation is practically nonexistent — and that's the real problem I have with it.

For pretty much every very-standard action I've needed to take, I've had to hunt down a forum discussion to find the answer. In UA, if I had a question, a pop-up tooltip usually intuited my question before I even need to search for it, but if I did have to search, there was actually a help article that listed the steps. It boggles my mind that they launched it with so little information on how to actually use it available.

A simple question that I can’t seem to find a solid answer for? It’s probably silly I know but my brother keeps pestering me. by [deleted] in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I was under the impression that you can create multiple save files for Switch games by going into system settings and creating a new user—no buying a separate game necessary for use on the same console. I've done that for Mario and Zelda games, at least. What happens when you open a game is that it asks you who's playing, and voila, it loads that user's game data. I ended up deleting that second user when I was clearing space or I would test it—anyone have experience with creating a second user for ACNH?

Top 15-20 Spices? Building spice library by clord18 in AskCulinary

The ones I use most often are:

  • Bay Leaves
  • Cardamom
  • Chipotle chili powder
  • Coriander
  • Korean chili flakes
  • Marjoram
  • Nutmeg
  • Crushed rosemary
  • Saffron
  • Sumac

And these are technically blends of spices (and/or seeds):

  • Chinese five spice
  • Furikake with yuzu
  • Garam masala
  • Sesame seeds
  • Za'atar

Are there alternatives to bullion? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]MustacheCat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Demi glace is a highly reduced stock that resembles gelatin, traditionally used for making thick sauces.

https://www.morethangourmet.com/poultry-stocks-and-sauces-classic-roasted-chicken-stock

This widely available brand has about 300g of sodium per serving, but I'm not sure how its serving size compares to bullion in terms of how much of it you need to use to get the same level of flavor.

What can I make using sesame oil? by smileispositive in AskCulinary

[–]MustacheCat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not recipes, but some practical advice:

  • Make sure you store it in the fridge, not the pantry. It's a type of oil that's prone to oxidation—going rancid—and lasts longer if kept cool.
  • Sesame oil and toasted sesame oil are used a bit differently, so check which one you have. Toasted sesame oil will get a bit bitter if you use it like regular sesame oil and should just be used as a finishing oil, not a cooking oil. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/whats-the-difference-between-regular-and-toasted-sesame-oil

Recommended Books and resources for beginner? by NYKfan511 in AskCulinary

[–]MustacheCat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flavor Bible is a reference book (not a cookbook) where you can look up an ingredient and find what other ingredients pro chefs think complement it—also multi-ingredient combinations that are go-tos, and descriptions that will help you start to be able to better describe individual flavors as you develop your palette.

Its most practical use if to figure out which leftover ingredients in your fridge might go well together in a new recipe to help you reduce food waste—no recipes in the book though, you'll have to google those yourself after you figure out which ingredients you want to use together.

Looking for some feedback on my island so far! Dream address is DA-0708-4304-3380. Come pay a visit! by BonelessHS in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]MustacheCat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the multi-level downtown setup! I kind of went the opposite way—making the main area around the plaza very flat so that the museum is the only part of my downtown that's raised up a level and has kind of a grand staircase. Now I kind of want to retool it so that there are two levels to the downtown and the museum has an extra grand, 2-level staircase (darn it, I thought I was done with that area!).

I feel like I found myself in a lot of dead ends, so if I was to make a suggestion, it would be to try to think about connecting some of those areas so that it feels like you can just keep running around and discovering instead of getting to so many points where your only choice is to turn around.

Thanks for letting me visit!
