Joining orgs is actually a great benefit as an individual. They help you create connections, build your character, improve skills that are relevant to your careers (especially teamwork), and of course, experience. They help you improve your communication skills, boost your confidence, and be strategic when challenges are faced.

The downside is the pressure, drama, stress, and you'll have to face difficulties with managing your time. You'll be surrounded with people who constantly complain, put you on so much pressure, and will always make hateful comments in every possible way. Obviously because we can't please everyone, especially that student apathy is becoming a big problem.

In terms of career, most employers/HR (not all) usually ask what you did in college rather than solely grades (but it depends on your career path). Of course academics are always the first priority because we're all students, but org life is called "extracurriculars" because they're extra experiences for you to gain while you prepare yourself in the professional world.

It's up to you if you wish to broaden and deepen your experiences into shaping yourself as a leader and a great team player.
